I'm sure you can appreciate why those rounds are uppermost in the mind of a football follower who lives over an hour deep into Wales... not least because the early ones will be taking place while the World Cup's on. The preliminary and first definitely will be, World Cup might have finished (just) as the second round starts. The early rounds can be interesting, teams who play the calendar year usually have a gelled and fit squad, some teams look unfit at the start of pre-season. Quote

I hate to sound like an old git (I am one) , but the league cup used to be a fairly big deal too, nothing on the FA Cup but still. At one point even got a European spot. I suppose you need the bank holiday weekend for the playoffs which causes issues. The Championship play off final has one of the most fantastic builds you could get though, so makes up for it. Quote

Last year there was a chance that someone different could win it (and did) so it felt like an event. I can't remember a year where the FA Cup final was less of a deal than this year. Quote

There is no Saint & Greavsie, there's not even a Soccer AM anymore, does anyone want Micah Richards going to see what the players are having for breakfast or following the coaches to the stadium? The FA Cup (or at least the TV side of things) was a huge deal as not many matches were televised. Times move on. For me the FA Cup is still the one. Its the first trophy I ever saw Spurs win, and my Grandad would remind me that Spurs always win in a year ending in 1 (bloody liar!) Having said that, they should 100% bring back the celebrity games beforehand, much like they should bring back the pre League Cup final 100m player sprint. This is well worth watching for Daley Thompson scoring a belting volley set up by Ray Winstone. Kevin Webster is playing as well. Quote

You mentioned the shows that were on, and how we consume media has changed. But I guess understandably priorities change over time for clubs and for fans. A tremendous goal to win it though.
