Paid Members tiger_rick Posted February 20 Paid Members Posted February 20 Just in case the SPL title race wasn't exciting enough, Celtic's hammering in the EL last night now makes elimination almost certain and with it, Scotland dropping out of the top 15 European Leagues meaning only the Champions will enter the CL next season. Not only that, but they'll enter the second qualifying rather than the Play-Off round. 2nd and 3rd in the SPL will go into the Conference League and the Scottish Cup winners into the EL - in the 1st Qualifying Round that stars in mid-July! 4th in the league will get hee-haw as they say in Still Game. What a cracking title race, Rangers/Celtic next weekend should be electric. Hearts/Aberdeen scares me a bit - it should be an easy enough win for Hearts, but this has potential banana-skin written all over it. A win for Hearts and a draw for the Glasgow teams would suit me down to the ground. Quote

There were two leagues before 1975 when it went to three leagues and they've fiddled about with the details pretty constantly since then. Some people want 2 leagues to return, but really more games between the bigger teams is always going to win the arguement. Quote

That is some achievement, fair play. Poor old Archie Gray, the lad looked broken at the end. The only one that can hold his head high. The rest can absolutely fuck off. And look sometimes you just have to take your medicine and sit 10 seats away from an away end in rapture and there is nothing you can do about it. That's the game innit? Speaking of splits, I happened upon the Swiss Super League table yesterday. The Super League splits like the SPL does for the last 5 fixtures and FC Thun have a game in hand - against the bottom side - to go 14 points clear and could easily wrap up the title before the split. Even more remarkable, they're newly promoted and have never won anything before. He's a great player. But he's absolutely the sort of signing Spurs have been making for 20 years and it's not got them anywhere. They're great at buying potential but it either dies there or they sell it on and it does great elsewhere. Like Bale and Carrick. Very few of the great young players they buy ever seem to become their best version at Spurs. Aaron Lennon is an obvious exception. I can't think of many more. One of the biggest myths of the last couple of decades is that Spurs don't invest. They spend a lot of money but it's always on potential or on second and third choice players because they don't pay the wages for top players and lose them to other clubs. That recruitment model is fine if you're ahead of the curve on finding players the other top clubs have slept on but they're not that good either. Other than Son, and possibly Van De Ven, who have they bought in years who'd have the other clubs feeling like they've missed out? And if there is anyone, they'll sell him for the right price anyway! It was a weekend of horrendous refereeing - Richard King’s red card for St Mirren against Motherwell is one of the worst decisions I’ve seen in a long time, not least because as best as I can tell, the referee sent him off without having actually seen what (didn’t) happen. I’d share a clip, but the only specific clip I can find through Google is from X, so fuck that. I have a bad feeling every time Hearts play a game right now, it just feels too good to be true and I’m waiting for the wheels to come off. It's helped them a bit that Basel and Young Boys have been crap this season but they're well clear. It's a good league, too, I always enjoy it if I catch myself watching a game. Quote

Saw this on the Sky Sports site. It's the worst VAR decision I've ever seen. I can't imagine any other human in the world, other than the one on VAR, watching that and finding a red card offence. Didn't see the game last night but saw United's excellent counter attacking goal. That ball from Cunha was unbelievable. I always said Sesko was a good signing. No doubt about it. 🤥 Quote
