He was there less than a year, maybe 6 months, leaving a few weeks after losing the title, a title he won in a dark match. I think it was meant to be a triple threat tag IIRC but one person was in isolation/injured during COVID which made it hard to change plans at short notice. Short of pulling the match entirely and leaving themselves short on timing I think it was probably the best decision. I don't think WWE get enough credit for keeping that Mania going and actually giving us something to enjoy at a shitty time even if in hindsight it was incredibly weird. Quote

I always wondered about that at the time. He left for a bit because the daft sod had signed a contract for someone else, I think was the truth. Eventually he returned when it was presumably too late to reference the original story. Quote
