I don't know if it's true, but the story I heard behind her name being "Amazing Kong" (before she was Awesome) was that the Matsunaga brothers who ran AJW called her that so they could put "A. Kong" on posters while Aja was on the outs with them and working elsewhere.

That's one of the most Japanese things I've ever heard. Kudos.

Since its Mania Season, I thought of making a thread but I'll include it here, Mania Matches you have no memory happening? John Morrison vs Kofi Kingston vs Jimmy Uso.

You think it's a triple threat for a singles title, but NOPE!

Triple Threat for a TAG TITLE!

Just so random.

Less random when you remember this was Pandemicmania IIRC

One Man Gang as US champ in 1995?!

I had a little search to find the reference image used in the MegaDrive thread but saw this.. I didn't remember he was even in the company that late into the 90's until seeing this.

And he won it off Kensuke Sasaki and lost it to Konnan. Can there be a weirder run of champions?

He was there less than a year, maybe 6 months, leaving a few weeks after losing the title, a title he won in a dark match. He actually lost a second dark match the same night but WCW only acknowledged the first.

Only really know of the One Man Gangs run recently as this popped up in my Youtube suggestions a while back; Here he is facing the Yetaaaay, who underwent an attire change first (so was still called the Yeti in this gear, bizarrely), and then a name change. Classic WCW Saturday Night.

I think it was meant to be a triple threat tag IIRC but one person was in isolation/injured during COVID which made it hard to change plans at short notice. Short of pulling the match entirely and leaving themselves short on timing I think it was probably the best decision.

I don't think WWE get enough credit for keeping that Mania going and actually giving us something to enjoy at a shitty time even if in hindsight it was incredibly weird.

A Japanese bloke, an African and a Mexican all scrapping over the United States title is WCW all over.

I always wondered about that at the time. He left for a bit because the daft sod had signed a contract for someone else, I think was the truth. Eventually he returned when it was presumably too late to reference the original story.
