I was talking to a friend earlier about The Nightmare Collective in AEW and it got me thinking about storylines/characters/angles that are largely forgotten now, and thought it might be fun to mention them on here in a 'bloody hell, I'd forgotten all about that!' way.

A couple of things from the past 5/6 years that have been consigned to the dustbin of history;

- The Firm in AEW. Their big bad new heel stable... who appeared on screen once, I believe? Stokeley Hathaway should never be doing anything more than comedy.

- Erick Rowan's box. For weeks he bought a little cage out with him to the ring and the question everybody (read:nobody) was asking was 'what's in the cage?' and it turned out to be some electronic spider thing. I'm pretty sure this was during the 2 out of 3 falls/Wild Card Raw era, an absolute nadir of WWE programming.

- Shelton Benjamin smiling. For a few weeks WWE would cut to a Shelton Benjamin interview and he'd get asked a question but instead of answering he'd just smile at the camera silently. Never went anywhere, no idea what it was all about.

What else has been forgotten? (Except by you obviously, otherwise you wouldn't be mentioning it!)

Perhaps cheating a little here by referencing early weeks of the pandemic scrambling to put on any kind of TV show, but...

Austin Theory & Angel Garza as a tag team managed by Zelina Vega challenging for the tag team titles at Wrestlemania.

See also the tag team of Brendan Vink & Shane Thorne managed by MVP on Raw.

It was mentioned on here recently, and I hadn’t remembered it at all so it merits mentioning again - Bob Backlund managing Darren Young in a ‘make Darren Young Great Again’ gimmick:

People seem to have forgotten that Drew McIntyre returned to the WWE main roster as Dolph Ziggler’s tag partner - and as it turns out, I was one of those people as I was going to describe him as Dolph Ziggler’s bodyguard until I checked. They even had a tag title run together, something I have zero recollection of.

Anyone remember the Smackdown Karaoke Showdown, hosted by future Royal Rumble winner Jey Uso?

I can’t decide if the lack of a live audience has made it worse or better.

And then there’s Lamont, Ernest Miller’s manager in WWE, during his ill-fated run in WWE. Just hear how mild the crowd go here, in spite of an admirable effort from poor Lamont:

Tyson Kidd’s ill fated mission to have a manager. In 2011 in consecutive weeks Kidd was managed by the following people:

Michael Hayes

Armando Estrada

Matt Striker

Vickie Guerrero

JTG

It went nowhere and he never ended up with a manager ?

Speaking of Tyson Kidd, it was round about that time he briefly had a bodyguard in Jackson Andrews - so I guess that counts as an entry in this thread too:

The funniest thing is that this was Vince's idea and when Shelton asked what it was all about Vince said "I dunno, we'll work that out later".

Good idea for a thread.

This graphic always makes my brain melt. Doesn’t seem possible that Booker T and the Big Bossman were both in WWE at the same time.

Greg Valentine had a short run in around 2005. Around the same time they were bringing back Duggan, Tatanka, Animal, Gangrel and Viscera.

Another one I swear I can remember watching, but that never comes up at Royal Rumble time. I am certain they did a SmackDown-only smaller Royal Rumble in 2004, which Eddie Guerrero won, and that’s how he got his title match against Lesnar. But it never gets mentioned. Even in an article I saw last month about Royal Rumbles nobody remembers. So either it was a regular battle royal or I’ve made it up or it truly has been forgotten.

It was a Rumble, and it was great.

As did Tony Atlas shortly after that - people remember his spell as a manager, I think - but not so much that he had several matches, including one against Evan Bourne:

A few random ones from TNA - Lex Luger’s final match for a somewhat major promotion came in TNA:

While Dusty Rhodes had a run as an active wrestler in TNA, which included a singles title match against AJ Styles…

Paul Bearer also had a little-remembered run there…

Tatanka also wrestled a match in TNA, defeating Jay Lethal in his one and only appearance there. I can’t even find a clip of that one.
