A different discussion altogether but after Collision started it was a shame they just pretty much gave up on Rampage. Rampage was the fun easy going wrestling show to watch over your cornflakes but then Collision kind of took that place and Rampage just had a whole lot of nothing on it. They should have used that hour of TV and turned it into the wacky, bonkers experimental hour. Filled it with weird and crazy matches (they have the roster for it), character building stuff, mad skits and comedy. Like so much in AEW, another missed opportunity. I've never forgiven them for doing away with Dark and Elevation. That's exactly what they were. Just bundles of fun, commentary was nonsense, matches were short showcases, jobbers got opportunities. A proper little development environment. Can't really see that on Friday night on real TV but they had a great thing there. Quote

Jarrett declared for it last week but that match could have ended before he got anywhere near it (and basically did) - anything but 1 and 2 is a bad draw. I don’t watch a lot of AEW so didn’t really know this match but I can’t decide if I like it or not - genuinely bamboozled as to my thoughts on it. Quote

I guess luck of the draw is a thing in any sport, so it's somewhat explainable. The problem is, you can never really mess too much with the booking formula. I mean, you could just have 1 pin 2 to prove the concept but from a wrestling POV, that's a disappointment for fans. Having one person left who doesn't make it and is severely pissed off would be a good way to facilitate a heel turn though. I hope they do that at some point. Although that would rely on said person hammering home the same point over and over which isn't something they're good at. Quote
Paid Members Chris B Posted January 10, 2025 Paid Members Posted January 10, 2025 It was by the time nobody was watching Being the Dark Order, but they did a skit at Wembley where Evil Uno was next up and just missed out. I really liked that episode of Dynamite. Everything moved smoothly, and plenty was fun. Jarrett's promo was great, and I'm down with a short MJF/Jeff feud. I liked the switch with FTR jumping the Death Riders from behind. Lashley/Briscoe was probably the best Lashley match I've seen (I'd stopped watching before the Hurt Business run), but fuck me, how much of a star does Shelton Benjamin look? The Casino Gauntlet was fun enough. We've been spoiled with a couple of absolute belters, but I enjoyed it and particularly enjoyed Hobbs winning. I get why it might be frustrating for some, but I like the idea that (given the right push) anyone can be a credible main eventer pretty quickly. He feels like a star, so a decent win after a prominent loss is fine for me. He's also clearly massively amused by the 'meat' chants, and I saw him trying not to laugh at one point. And Kenny Omega. Good God, welcome back. Personally, I really like the new music - if we're going to see a more NJPW-style Kenny, I'm all for that. Slightly awkward timing for his new fire-themed entrance, but these things happen. But it was a good promo, and I'm down for him vs Brian Cage (who is looking more and more like Steve Blackman in a different aspect ratio). Quote

They did a little angle once where Roddy was furious that he didn't get to come out for the gauntlet because it ended before he could get out there, and he was complaining the following week. I think he ultimately got a title match out of that, if I remember rightly, which more than slightly undermines the whole thing. Quote
