Paid Members Lion_of_the_Midlands Posted May 31, 2025 Paid Members Posted May 31, 2025 Loads of the women in AEW have come in, had a bit of a run then got stuck in the muck. Someone said it earlier, it's the difficult second album syndrome. Tony would have been a great booker in the old territory days. Bring someone in, shine them up, make your money, move them on. Perfect. The trouble for Mariah is that in WWE the first album can be fucked around with by the producers to such an extent you never get anything in the first place. Also let's not retcon the whole Mariah/Toni storyline as been down to Toni with Mariah as only a bit part of it because she's leaving AEW. It took them both equally to be at the top of their game. None of the other AEW women could have played either part anything like as well. Toni was as much a part of Mariah's story as Mariah was of Toni's. Quote

digforvictory Posted May 31, 2025 Posted May 31, 2025 I'm sad Mariah is leaving, she was one half of the best womens feud I've ever seen and honestly there's a good argument it's the best feud in AEW history full stop. Hangman/Swerve and Hangman/Omega are the only comparable ones for me. Would have liked to see her against Mercedes or Jamie Hayter but it wasn't to be. WWE was apparently always her goal and that's fair enough, she never half arsed it or sulked or had a meltdown or tweeted negative moaney shite the way that Miro and Malakai Black or CM Punk did. She came in, worked really hard, got over, had an all time great feud and left . I think the feud elevated Toni Storm even more and she's now one of the biggest stars in the company. In a way Mariah leaving makes the story even more perfect, she came in and tried to replace Toni, lost and then ran away. Ties a nice bow on everything. You can only say fair play to her, she should be a big star in WWE but who knows. I think it would be a mistake to start her off in NXT, it did absolutely nothing for Ricky Starks going there other than cooling him right down, but it wouldn't surprise me if that's what they do. I sentence you to a lifetime of mediocrity, your life will continue, your career will continue and it'll be good but never great. The people will like you but never love you because the star that you are will not compare to this monster that you've become. So you will dwindle, be replaced and be forgotten and then one day many years from now, someone will ask whatever happened to Mariah May, she found out what happens when you try to kill God. It seems like she's left on good terms unlike a lot of the others so if it doesn't work out, I'm sure she would be welcomed back. Quote

It was asked about again in the build to Double or Nothing, but I do hope they introduce some Tag Titles for the division. There have been a lot of pairings over the years that could have benefited from a tag title run. Athena & Billie Starkz right now since the return call-up for the Owen Tournament went nowhere. Quote

The King Of Swing Posted May 31, 2025 Posted May 31, 2025 I thought the closing segment was rubbish, but I know I'm seemingly in the minority in having almost no interest in Storm Vs. Mone. Josh Alexander brings nothing to AEW, imo. Happy that Big Brody got the win. Quote
DavidB6937 Posted May 31, 2025 Posted May 31, 2025 I really enjoyed Josh Alexander in TNA and he definitely has a strong upside. Must admit it's felt quite underwhelming but hoping his time will come. Quote
Paid Members ReturnOfTheMack Posted May 31, 2025 Paid Members Posted May 31, 2025 That's the most skippable looking episode of Collision in a while. Quote

Yeah I love Toni Storm, but Mones rubbish, not on the level of Storm in terms of character, and to be honest even her matches are boring as they end up going so long. She's got such an inflated opinion of herself (not just character wise but in general), similar to FTR, and for me doesn't fit in AEW, she's everything AEW isn't which kinda works when she's a heel, but it's not being played like that. If it does close All In it'll be a real disappointment, though Toni Storm does deserve it. Edited May 31, 2025 by Doog Quote

Wrestlers very rarely hit the ground running in AEW, to be fair - Toni Storm didn’t, Ricochet didn’t, Swerve didn’t, Mercedes didn’t, MJF didn’t and people forget but Hangman Page certainly didn’t. Wrestling doesn’t make you stand out in AEW because pretty much everyone there is good at it; which means that you have to establish an identity or character. Alexander hasn’t had the chance to do that, but we know that he can based on his time in TNA, and I’m fairly sure he will. He’s not lost the attributes that made him succeed in his previous home. Paid Members RedTwoster Posted June 1, 2025 Paid Members Posted June 1, 2025 I was obviously in the mood for wrestling this morning because Collision was full of matches I shouldn’t give a shit about, but I had a great time watching it. Dante Martin is one of my favourite wrestlers to watch in ring. Darius isn’t quite as good as his brother, which may be down to the injuries he’s suffered. Still, I think they could be getting more out of Top Flight, given how depleted the tag division is. Rush can go fuck himself. The FTR segment was odd, and kind of bad. I’ve no idea who the team that came out were, and the guy who wasn’t Atlantis Jr - no idea what his name even was, I’m not sure they mentioned it and if they did, I didn’t pick it up. I used to think Skye Blue had potential, but she doesn’t seem to have progressed much - again, injury likely played a part because she did gradually seem to improve during her previous run. The main event was a lot of fun, but I really would like to see Hechicero get more victories. He’s someone I’d like to see AEW sign on a full-time basis, actually. Okada/Bowens was fun, but Bowen still feels directionless. I think it’s time to reform The Acclaimed. Caster is great, but maybe the next step is for them both to realise they’re better together. Paid Members Supremo Posted June 1, 2025 Paid Members Posted June 1, 2025 Haven’t even properly caught on this week’s Dynamite or Smackdown yet (the joys of half term!) and now I’m hearing next week’s Dynamite is four hours long? Death by content. Quote

She was being featured pretty regularly before the injury and was definitely improving every time. This is only her second or third TV match back? I’m sure with a bit of time she’ll be back where she was before. I’d happily have Skye and Julia as women’s tag champs. Quote

I hope so, and a tag team might be a good use of her. The problem for her now is that the AEW Women’s Division has come on leaps and bounds since her last sustained run, meaning her deficiencies will be more obvious than they previously might have been. But clearly she’d been working hard to improve, so it would be hugely unfair of me to write her off given the determination she clearly had. Edited June 1, 2025 by RedTwoster Quote
