Mr Perfect vs Brock Lesnar. I knew of this match but I’d never seen it before. Shame we’ll never see footage of the rematch they had on the old Plane Ride From Hell a few months later.

Weren't Lesnar and Curt mates from this run?

Yes. When Brock was training for the move from amateur to pro, Brad Rheingans introduced him to Curt as he was local. Brock credits Curt with helping him a lot, and short of a certain flare up on a certain plane, they were close. Brock took his death pretty badly according to his book.

I think Perfect was one of those guys that had at least one fight over a rib gone too far with everyone that called him a mate.

The best quality version of that match is on Brock’s second DVD/BluRay set ‘Eat Sleep Conquer Repeat’. As with most Dark Matches that get released on those kind of things the picture is a little fuzzy, as they were still recording to tape, but it’s slightly better than that rip

I even liked your post in there which gad that match embedded!

I’d definitely never seen the match though. Must’ve been a case of me meaning to get around to watching it and then forgetting about it.

Don’t know anything about La Fiera but I see so much Eddie Guerrero in him and not just the Frog Splash. Even the way he bumps and especially this…

Eddie took it exactly the same way, flying into the air and almost into the ropes on the other side. Maybe it’s common knowledge and been talked about before but he had to have been an influence on Eddie, right?

@wandshogun09 Eddie was inspired by La Fiera! Mentions as much in his 2001 RF Video shoot interview. I've always enjoyed watching La Fiera stuff from when he was in his prime. He was so naturally talented and could have great matches in a variety of styles. Sadly, injuries and drugs were his undoing and he died after being stabbed in what police believed was a drug-related incident.

I remember ROH had a red and black rip-off version around 2003/04. Always assumed that must’ve been a tribute to the red and blue All Japan one.

Short-lived Japanese promotion King's Road did just that. They only ran five shows in total but you can see one of them here and another one here, the others might be online somewhere I know at least four aired on TV as I had them on DVD. There's also a decent article on the promotion here, which is probably more interesting than the shows they did....
