Personally if someone paid me hundreds of thousands to sit at home and do nothing I'd be the happiest person on Earth. Regardless, it's a really bad look for AEW and they should sort it out quickly. Especially after Brodie Lee lost so much of his career to similar bullshit.

Is Rey Fenix going to be a needle mover for WWE? No. He'll be stuck in the middle of the card and probably feuding with Legado del Fantasma after a couple of months. What's he holding on to him for? With MJF I could understand it but this guy? It's dumb.

It also highlights their booking/creative shortcomings. You've got Pac as the newest member of the Deathriders. A group who seem to want to murder everyone. It'd be incredibly easy to do a short angle/story where the Lucha Bros confront their former Death Triangle partner - you can then do Deathriders vs Lucha Bros match, Pac vs Penta or Pac vs Fenix as a final match where Pac goes over and/or shoot an angle where the Deathriders murder the Lucha Bros and they're never seen in AEW again. Easy as pie to do this shit.

I've seen it happen a lot in the music business, labels keeping hold on an artist while not letting them create and release anything for years. Sky Ferreira was pretty much held hostage for a decade until recently.

If you're an artist or performer it's going to hurt, regardless of money.

Yes - the segment where she introduced herself to Schiavone because they’d never met before made it much clearer that there’s a plan here. I like it.

Willow Nightingale and Jamie Hayter had a great match on this show that deserved to be seen by more people than watch Collision, and the 50 odd people in the audience. That venue was so blacked out it barely made a difference when Julia Hart played with the lights.

There was also a fantastic moment in the main event after a big move on the outside, a kid in the front row helped Mark Briscoe to his feet. What a top babyface Briscoe is.

If anybody felt like they might care about FTR getting murdered at the end of the show, a reminder that earlier this week, they said they “got no problem” with Moxley and the Death Riders doing what they’re doing. They brought it on themselves and they should accept it and be fine with it. They got no problem with it after all.

Toni Storm playing Timeless Toni Storm who has some sort of memory block playing Toni Storm. A brilliant idea and a damn shame it's happening in such a dead feeling promotion. It'll be a really good angle because all the people involved have my trust it'll be really good. 

It's not putting a sack on FTR bald's head and driving off to do WHATEVER THAT WILL GET YOU ARRESTED. I know it's wrestling, I know it's utter complete bollocks, but AEW, a promotion that has Orange Cassidy and Toni Storm exist, did pride itself on being a bit realistic more realistic as a promotion with consequences. In a way if you have every wrestler forgoe reality, they just end up as sims you can't relate too. You can kidnap Darby Allin for example because he'd want the mad revenge. FTR have been literally kidnapped and taken from their families that they need to feed (FTR bald has alluded to that in the past) by Jon Moxley because they're irritated they couldn't pour bleach down a man's throat last week ON CAMERA. This is the same group that's willing to not interfere in certain wrestling matches because, the rules or something. I'm not asking for Bullet Bob Armstrong throwing out fines for every act heelishness SMW style, but if you going to try and suffocate, kidnap and try to murder co-workers with bleach in lieu of them wanting to simply get revenge in a match, the whole structure falls apart. Said it last week, wrestling can only be so violent before it becomes so stupid, and The Death Riders pulling all these capers on camera and their punishment being WRESTLING babyfaces makes everyone involved look completely stupid. Stop telling Jon Moxley his ideas are good. Have a word Renee!!!

Jon Moxley’s weekly creative meeting with Tony Khan, still trying to convince him The Death Rider angle can work.

Look, I love Jon Moxley. Always have. Loved him as Dean Ambrose. Always thought he was massively under-utilised in WWE. Adored his run as AEW Champion during the Daily’s Place Era. Genuinely attribute him with keeping me sane during Covid. He’ll always be my boy. Would happily watch Rocky 3 with him.

But fucking hell, Jon. This Death Rider shit just isn’t it. It’s complete bollocks. It’s The Devil angle all over again. Second straight year renowned cowardly shithouse Tony Khan is terrified to pick a lane. He can’t just do a Continental Classic without an adjacent bullshit Sports Entertainment angle to keep everyone happy and not alienate anyone.

You know that bit at the end of, “Monty Python and the Holy Grail,” when the police suddenly turn up and everything ends abruptly? I want that to happen with The Death Riders as soon as possible. All the criminal activity is on tape. Definitely enough evidence for them all to go to jail for at least six months to a year. I might dial 999 myself.

It also doesn’t help that the Continental Classic just isn’t Continental Classicking like last year. The matches have all just been fine and I’m nowhere near as invested in either the stories or characters as I was last year. Hopefully things pick up, and Darby vs. Ospreay meets the lofty expectations, but thus far all this year’s C2 has done is remind me how fucking  brilliant Eddie Kingston and Bryan Danielson are/were. RIP Dragon!

On the plus side, Top Flight vs. Lio/Action was a great little exhibition and overall this was a brilliant show for the women.

Willow and Hayter had a super fun, action-packed, stiff match. Yet another example of why this entire company needs to be built around Willow. Her smiling down the camera after the match, sweetly declaring, “I’ll see you Tokyo Dome!” with blood dripping down her beautiful face. Boss. She. Is. The. Absolute. Best.

Good return for Julia Hart. The only person in the business who gets away with singing her entrance theme.

Solid, fiery promos from Mariah and Thunder Rosa.

We needn’t have worried. Toni and RJ have done it again. The Two Faces of Toni is already a hoot. I hope she starts talking about moving up the rankings with these two back-to-back victories. What a start to her AEW career!

And ultimately, I already cannot wait for the inevitable moment when she hits herself in the head with a shoe, bringing back the Timeless one!

Mariah's promo was outstanding. The Toni stuff is great already. Good opener. Great return for Julia. Good showcase for Stat. Solid promo from Rosa, who has nicely built a decent PPV title match without really interacting with Mariah. The women in AEW kill it and it doesn't get enough credit. Even Mone, after a ropey start, is bloody great. Her promos get slander on here but they're absolutely perfect. If there was anyone in these buildings, they'd love to boo the shit out of them.

Really good stuff in the C2 again. Good follow-up from Ospreay and Darby. It is odd that this whole Death Riders thing is going on while there's a nice catch-as-catch-can tournament killing it in the ring but at least recognising that and giving reasoning for focusing on a bunch of matches rather than ignoring it is the right approach. 

I like the Death Riders. They look cool, the promos are great, the angles that tease violence but aren't really violent are fine. I think the only issue with it is the claims about taking over AEW and changing it. They aren't really. They're mostly involved in their own angles, building matches (with several different opponents for several different shows which is a great trait) and delivering in them. If it's anymore than just a fairly menacing heel group, we need to see it. We need to hear how they're going to take over. We need to know how they're going to reset AEW. As much as we all probably grew to hate 20 minute in-ring promos that set up a show that apparently had nothing booked on it, surely there should be something akin to that showing that Mox is in charge? Favours for people who bow down to him, setting up roadblocks for Hangman, White, OC, etc. Kicking Darby out of the C2. Firing Jim Ross (legit). It's enjoyable enough as part of the show. It's just not anything more. I don't mind that, but don't say it is.

Also, they were on for about 40 seconds, so that's way too much about them.

This was a tremendous show. They mostly are. Man, I just want some venues with some people in them.

Fantasy booking time, look away lads:

Have Hayter challenge Willow to a best of 7 series to see who is the best women's wrestler in the company. 

It starts of as friendly competition but over the series tensions start rising (a DQ win here, an injury exploitation there, maybe one cheat win) and by the end of it it's a full on fierce, heated and hateful feud and they try and murder eachother in match 7. Once over they share a mutual begrudging respect but the competition between the two remains forever.

Hire me, Tony!
