Christmas Foods 2023

Saw my first Christmas advert last weekend - admittedly it was an American one on American TV (that I was consuming entirely legally obviously) and it was for booking Disney trips for Christmas, but still. It was a real life Christmas ad in mid-August.

So you're good with the mince pies I think.

I work in a cash and carry and our Christmas lines started coming in last week. It's the same every year, but still takes me by suprise. I'm still clutching at straws to summer and my suntan while putting selection boxes and they awful tins of biscuits nobody wants onto the shelves.

Just had the Aldi Christmas Dinner Yorkshire Pudding Wrap with a little tub of gravy.  Heated in the air fryer so nice and crispy.  Very nice indeed, stuffed with all the Christmas dinner faves like turkey, stuffing, bacon, sausage and cranberry sauce.  I’d recommend.

Made Christmas loaded fries for dinner. Fries with rosemary salt, pigs in blankets, stuffing, crispy onions, cranberry sauce, topped off with an obscene amount of gravy. 
 

Not very healthy but delicious!

I had the Sainsbury's one and found it thoroughly acceptable.

M&S Christmas Sausage Roll is a cracker.  Tasty.

I found the stuffing-ish crumble on the Greggs festive bake a bit overpowering this year.

Nando's festive burger is quality but very filling.  I would maybe have one side maximum with it as the bubble and squeak croquettes in the burger are essentially a side on their own, plus the dipping gravy.

Both the yorkie wrap and the beef wellington sandwiches are now on my radar.

Sandwich of the week at work was turkey, pork and sage stuffing, bacon, cranberry sauce and let me tell you this blows any supermarket sandwich out of the water.

Photo doesn't do it justice. 10/10 and that's despite me not really liking cranberry sauce. 

Hope it's still on next Monday.

Sickeningly, this does not appear to be in either of my local Aldis.

I tried making a version myself last night with roast beef trimmings, though and it was really nice. Rather than dip it in gravy, I decided to get my hands messy and soak the filling with my beef gravy.

Alongside that, I used leftover roast potatoes (crisped up in the air-fried), my garlic-roasted carrots, some of our home-grown peas and red cabbage to try and keep the gravy from soaking through the wrap, and the end result was really spectacular. It’s definitely a version of the leftover sandwich I’ll be trying again.

I've given up trying to find that Yorkshire wrap at Aldi. I have three Aldi's near me and it is always sold out.
