Paid Members LaGoosh Posted December 19, 2022 Paid Members Share Posted December 19, 2022 Cracking episode this week and hopefully the format going forwards. One big singles match, a couple of squashes then a fun multi-man to send everyone home happy. Lovely stuff. They managed to pack a lot of stories into the show without it feeling overwhelming or chaotic. Don't want to get ahead of myself but after this week it feels like AEW is back on form.

Awards Moderator HarmonicGenerator Posted December 24, 2022 Awards Moderator Share Posted December 24, 2022 The ending of the battle royal was really good - could have gone either way several times. Great stuff from Claudio and Top Flight. Hope they’ve got something big planned for Jade’s one year anniversary as champion.
Tsurutagun
The Hangman/Mox stuff was great again Love the small things in each segment. Claudio not getting involved was interesting, could have helped Mox out but stayed out of it
The King Of Swing
Anyone have Billy Gunn and Jeff Jarrett, main eventing TV for a major promotion in 2022 on their bingo card?
Paid Members Supremo Posted December 28, 2022 Paid Members Share Posted December 28, 2022 (edited) Another enjoyable show this week. They’re on a good little run of making Rampage worth watching again, supposedly with ratings to match. Brilliant. Long may it continue. Fun Battle Royale. Especially the fantastic home stretch. The prophecy remains as true now as it’s always been. The day AEW do a proper Royal Rumble with a decent amount of top stars it’s going to be the best Royal Rumble of all time. Seeing them interact in the Battle Royale made me wonder if Moxley and Butcher had ever had a one-on-one match. Checking cagematch, it seems they had a match during the pandemic era. Hopefully they do another one now Mox has reached his final form. That would make for a belting Rampage hoss match opener. Speaking of Mox, he and Hangman have quickly became one of the best things going today. It’s turning into the MJF/Wardlow thing where they’re the highlight of every show they brawl on. My Observer subscription ran out ages ago. Did Lance Storm ever apologise for his dumb, “but what’s the story?” moaning about Moxley and Hangman? Who knew that sometimes stories develop and reveal themselves naturally if you just watch them, and not everything has to be explained to people straight out of the gate like they’re morons, you miserable, boring square-headed twat. Jade looked great. I’d be tempted to go straight to the Sasha match if she’s coming in. That’s money. Will Hobbs is coming back in as a heel? After those vignettes? Madness. Not that it’ll matter in the long run. The crowd will turn him face in no time flat. Worst thing House of Black has done in months. Leave the spooky riddles for Bray. Hopefully Kingston and his endless quest for authenticity can keep this from coming off the rails. Buddy Mathews looks like he absolutely reeks of steroids. Biceps looked ready to pop. I never thought I’d go against my main man Wardlow but I’m hoping Samoa Joe wins on Wednesday. He’s finally found his groove. Long live the King of Television! Do you know who doesn’t get enough credit? Excalibur. He probably won’t get many nominations for announcer of the year but when you stop and think about it he’s really the glue that keeps this product together. Hugely underrated. He’s not as funny as Taz, he’s not as charming as Tony Schiavone and he’s not as shit as Jericho or JR, so he goes under the radar, but if you ever needed evidence of how good he is you just needed to watch that opening segment. My goodness. In a company filled with insanely athletic guys doing ridiculously impressive things, Excalibur flawlessly throwing to ad break may have been the most impressive thing of the entire year. “...and our opening contest the Three Hundred Thousand Dollars Three Kings Christmas Casino Trios Royale continuesinpictureinpicture FORTHENEXTNINETYSECONDS!” The Acclaimed vs. Jarrett and Lethal is a great TV feud. The perfect example of how to incorporate veterans without them just smashing everyone up and talking about how good the Attitude Era was. But yeah. Christmas miracle. The editors at FITE must have been visited by some ghosts! I didn’t notice until near the end of the show that I hadn’t heard the shitty theme music because they’d took all the advert breaks out! Yes! God bless us, everyone! Edited December 28, 2022 by Supremo

Yeah, it was supposedly super hot in the building and butcher had just lost some weight so he gassed badly, but he did fine considering. Paid Members Nick James Posted December 31, 2022 Paid Members Share Posted December 31, 2022 Lovely tribute to Don West to kick off the show. Now THAT is how you do a 20 minute opener. I love the Best Friends and this match was just wholesome fun from start to finish. Danhausen kicking Orange when he was on the floor got a laugh out of me. I still think Trent should have done bigger things in wrestling, the guy is great and if often overlooked. If we get Statlander returning in similar fashion to the claw machine then that is the only reason to be happy Kip and Penelope are involved. Really good promo from the Stinger. I did have to chuckle at Darby saying when he was in high school he was 115 pound, he looks about 120 now. I hate on Kip Sabian a lot, but the guy used a double footstomp as a transition move. Granted, he weighs about as much as a packet of crisps, but still. Taking the mask off Preston Vance and giving him a new gimmick was a masterstroke, the guy is brilliant. Jay Lethal should just leave the talking to Double J. Jay was shouting unbelievable bollocks before storming off then JJ showed him how it was done. Cool, calm and to the point. Jade should not be in peril to Kiera Hogan. She should have just run through her without too much of a struggle. She could also do without this 'Baddies' nonsense including the Red Velvet turn or non-turn now leading into a 'can they co-exist' tag match for Dynamite. I had to chuckle at Mark Henry telling Wheeler to 'look at the guys Swerve has with him' while Mox and Claudio is stood behind Wheeler. Another good Rampage. Even though it's only an hour long, it feels a lot longer than that, in a good way. Just an easy hour of wrestling.
Paid Members Supremo Posted December 31, 2022 Paid Members Share Posted December 31, 2022 "We'll attempt to find out more about the mystery partner on next week's episode of Dynamite.” They’re going to do the CM Punk thing where they say who it is without saying who it is. A couple of hours after Wrestle Kingdom, too! “Her flight from the Tokyo Dome is booked…it’s going to be a…Boss time.”
Infinity Land
Thought they'd do Acclaimed v. Jarrett & Lethal at Battle of the Belts. Looks like that'll be another ROH special with Claudio & Athena making random defenses with OC v. Kip for the All-Atlantic being the only likely AEW title on the line. Wouldn't mind seeing Shida defend her tag title against someone to at least change it up a bit.

I thought he was pretty decent on commentary too. And talking of commentary, I really enjoyed Paul Wight on the announce desk. On paper, this was a piss poor line-up, but the change in the announce line-up lifted it somewhat. I hope he gets a permanent slot on the show. As much as I feel sorry for Jim Ross, just as it was with Dynamite, a show has been lifted by his absence. 3 hours ago, Nick James said: Taking the mask off Preston Vance and giving him a new gimmick was a masterstroke, the guy is brilliant. To be honest, I’ve found his promos very monotonous. I’m not a fan of his mic work at all. I’m surprised Danielson’s big hometown match is with Tony Nese. They’d be better off having him cut a promo and not wrestle than go with this match-up. Also, I miss the days of QT Marshall and Shaun Spears getting this kind of match. Need is a better wrestler than both, yet far less interesting and fun to watch.

AEW finally hits Seattle and Danielson gets to work the guy he was willing to go on 205 Live to face. Similar deal for Swerve getting to work AR Fox.
