Didn't someone on here claim to have once smoke cigar with Dustin?

You’re thinking of “ate crisps with Gangrel.”

My claim to fame is I once shared pints, cigarettes and pork scratchings with TACKA Drake Maverick.

From the SCG WWF 1991 pod last year, when WWF were trying put for Tatanka, they tried Charlie Norris and Steve Gatorwolf as well as Chris Chavis. Not only is Norris terrible but he was called Johnny Greyfeather!!

We sure dodged a bullet with Tatanka!

I don't think it was necessarily a terrible idea, but when Tatanka had a mid-00s comeback and a heel turn that went nowhere, the initial plan for heel Tatanka was that he would be a smarmy, leather jacket wearing casino owner.

That would almost have worked as a logical follow on from his time in the Million Dollar Corporation. He invests the money Dibiase gave him and this is how it's paid him back. Heck it could even lead to a "getting back to my roots" style road to redemption storyline where he goes back to his original appearance.

Remember when Booker was feuding with the Undertaker and he kept going to see voodoo priestesses and witch doctors with the idea that they were going to repackage him as either a new Papa Shango style character or the gimmick that ended up becoming the Boogeyman?

Christopher Daniels as the "Higher Power" behind the Corporate Ministry in 1999 is one of those ideas that's so utterly stupid that I thought it was bollocks until I heard it confirmed on somebody's podcast (Prichard's probably?). It really was Russo's plan.

I mean, I love Daniels but putting him in THAT spot would've been fucking ridiculous. It's tough to imagine him even having a competitive match with the Undertaker or Triple H in 1999, much less being their boss and, effectively, being the top heel in the industry.

I wonder if, given that he's a smaller guy, especially by the standards of the WWF at the time, the plan would have been more to use Daniels as a manager? Paul Bearer couldn't really bump any more, whereas having a manager who can take a beating when needed is always more useful. Though I doubt Russo would have put any more thought into long-term than I just did.

He was an indie stand-out, but that meant nothing at that time. He was doing the Fallen Angel gimmick, and apparently Russo was a fan of that and thought he'd be a good fit, but McMahon saw him work and immediately rejected the idea.

For what it's worth, Daniels has said that they never spoke to him about it at the time, and he only heard rumours years later, and that it would have been a terrible idea. From the sounds of it, by his account, he wasn't even really on a developmental deal with them, he'd just been invited to train at the Funkin' Dojo - so it would be the equivalent of people speculating that someone who had a try-out today was going to be involved in a major storyline.

Truth is, it's typical Russo/Attitude Era guff - a compelling start to a story, with no idea how they're going to pay it off.

Was Daniels also Vampiro's "master" or higher power? I'm sure I remember seeing a vignette with him in a hood backstage on some sort of throne but Russo/the angle got canned before the reveal.

Yeah, he filmed some stuff as "Syndrome", Vampiro's mentor, and it never went anywhere. Russo clearly wanted to get some use out of him.
