That sounds mental to me, I've had 15 minute screening calls before but to me that's what the recruitment agency should be doing. If you aren't meeting the criteria then they shouldn't put you through, especially if they are a specialist recruitment agency which I would think financial services would use. I'm also curious as to why the tests weren't done in the first proper interview.

Recruitment seem to take a scatter-gun approach at times. It seems as if they just pick out on key words on phrases only. I have QA throughout my CV as I have almost always worked in Financial Services Assurance / Risk / Compliance type departments. Doesnt stop me from getting calls about fucking pharma jobs, maritime jobs etc.

I got contacted by a recruitment agency recently as they found my CV somewhere.

I advised them that I wasnt looking for work at the moment as I would be starting a new role in January.

They have emailed me a few times recently saying they know I am not interested but if I can recommend colleagues they will give me £50. Seems really professional!

I do understand the thoughts behind having a shit job is better than no job. But our Chilli has mentioned he’s quite fragile at the moment so you have to factor in the effect that job can have on mental health and see it probably wouldn’t be worth it.

It was sadly much more boring than that. The company make pipe fittings, valves, couplings and the Belgium is their European HQ. I just wanted a trip to chips and mayonnaise land.

I didn't get to go there but I did also recruit for a toilet manufacturer and got to visit their European HQ. Very UKFF.

Was actually quite interesting!

Toilets R’ Us: Mr Bacon, have you any experience in recruiting in the toilet sector?

Bacon: No but I once made a post referencing Steve Justice that got 12 upvotes!

Depends how you look at it. Would be different for each person. I don't think it's as simple as that. Me personally - I hated being unemployed. Being sat at home feeling absolutely useless. I would've loved to be somewhere contributing something.

Sometimes just getting out there and being with people can be a great help. As you say, potentially it could go the other way too if you really think of it as a step back and approach it really negatively, but I do think any employment CAN have an upside to it.

Indeed, but for Chilli, I don’t think it would be the case. I’d love to be able to work but it would be so debilitating for me both physically and mentally that my quality of life would be even worse than it is now. But I do agree with you, for the majority of people the good massively outweigh the bad.

Out of curiosity was it someone like Danfo, JC Decaux, Urimat, Popuptoilet or Sani2?

And sadly yes I am quite knowledgeable about the toilet sector.

It might have been you knowledgeable lav man you.

I recruited for a couple of those actually but it was the 1st one. Good bogs!

Edit: @Keith Houchen yeah good point and we are all different. My advice as mentioned was more general advice as Jesse had also mentioned not getting a retail interview.

Danfo UK are a contractor of mine, yeah they are good but fucking expensive. Actually all of the ones I mentioned are expensive. A single bay Decaux one can cost 500k.

I appreciate that Chili but you need a job. It doesn't have to be permanent, it just has to keep you going so you can look for one you want. If you have 11 years retail experience coming into the Christmas Temp period you can't afford to be above it.

Hi everyone. I've been applying in the week, and got nothing. What I did get was thrombophlebitis this week. Which has made getting about even more of struggle. Everything is a struggle at the moment.

That’s shit. I’ve had deep vein thrombosis, highlights being woken up in the middle of the night by a male nurse who looked like Seal taking my bloods, shushing me and introducing himself as Mr T and the chemist giving me the wrong stockings so I looked like something from Rocky Horror Picture Show under my trousers. Get well soon!

This sort of thing really depresses me. Looking for work really can be quite painful.

I've worked in financial services for 15+ years now and they seem to have particularly annoying recruitment practices.

I got contacted about a job a few months back and the recruiter was telling me that they aim to "simplify the process" which seemed a welcome relief.

What followed was a 45 minute "screening" call just to make sure I definitely met the criteria. I then had an hour long competency based interview. I thought that was it and then they said "I've been successful...in getting to the next stage" which was another interview but with different people followed by some tests. This wasnt even a particularly senior job.

I dread to imagine what their process before they simplified it.

The simplification was not for you, it was for the person conducting the final stage interview, as they have to do less of them.

Sounds like that scene in Oz when Adebisi worked on the AIDS ward.

Got myself a job interview with the NHS on Dec 12th for a store keeping job. Less money than what I’m on now but I honestly don’t give a fuck.

The prison service has worn me down tbh. What started as a rewarding and interesting job has gone sour over the last year or so. Staff corruption, increased assaults on officers, increased suicides / attempted suicides and drugs all over the place. I’m walking onto my wing each morning wondering just what the fuck is going to happen. I know it’s a jail with cons in it so it’s never been a walk in the park, but fuck me it’s never been this bad. Fingers crossed for the 12th.

Only been bloody offered the job haven’t I. Can’t wait to get out of that fucking prison.
