The definition of an idiot, in this case as relates to Gus Van Sant, is claiming to make a shot-for-shot remake of a film and then not actually making it shot-for-shot.

Artistically it's an interesting experiment but only if the two versions actually match. They don't, and therefore it's completely worthless. Much like most of the rest of Van Sant's career.

Considering I watched them back to back it was even more obvious to me that most of the film fails at the shot for shot remake it was sold as. Not only that, they literally change parts of the films

Spoiler

Like Lilia knocking out Norman rather then Sam just wrestling him to the ground.

I know you can't use the same sets etc. But he just remade the film/novel with a knowing nod and a wink. Lying git.

I could never get over the fact that as a stop gap until real hands were ready, scissors were apparently the next best thing. Absolutely ridiculous.

Uncharted. I still think they did Nate and Sully dirty, but I ended up really liking this. Chloe ❤️. Some great set-pieces, some surprisingly well shot fight scenes and a good few laughs. I'm gay for both Uncharted and adventure movies in general, though, so adjust expectations accordingly. Although the mate I went with has never played the games and also liked it.

I'm down for sequels. Statham as Cutter, please!

Why did he do his feet before his hands? Load of bollocks.

Uncharted (cinema)

Not as bad as is being reported. Marky Mark cracking jokes never works, and I still have no idea what anyone sees in Tom Holland. They have precisely no chemistry together. But Sophia Taylor Ali and Tati Gabriell and a superb end scene save it.

Finding Nemo (cinema)

Finally got round to watching it because Odeon are doing a few screenings of it at the moment. I thought Finding Dory was a bit funnier but this is overall a better film. #LovePixarHateDisney

The Duke (cinema)

Christ, there's fuck all on at the cinema at the moment, so I reluctantly went to this OAP film but ended up having a good time with it. Nice and socialist, Broadbent and Mirren are great, and it's over and done with fairly quickly.

Where Eagles Dare

Did my annual viewing of my favourite war film. The cable car scene absolutely never fails to have me enthralled, it's one of the best action film scenes ever made.

Smorgasbord (ok.ru)

Decided to try my first Jerry Lewis film. No idea what to make of it, really. It wasn't funny aside from one pretty good joke but I also didn't hate it. I'll try a couple more as it might be an acquired taste.

Letter from an Unknown Woman (BBC iPlayer)

Beautiful, depressing romantic drama where Joan Fontaine falls for an unaware Kamal Khan from Octopussy. I reckon Fontaine's better in this than she was in Rebecca, and the film's almost as great.

The Stranger (Prime)

Attention 80s / 90s DTV action fans, an absolute banger here. A High Plains Drifter rip-off but as they go, a really enjoyable one. Kathy Long is actually really good in the lead and should have done loads more, plus you get young 'uns like Andrew Divoff and Danny Trejo.

The Bedford Incident (Great! Movies)

There were a good number of these nuclear panic thrillers made in the 60s and they were generally very good. This is the most underrated of them, and the ending is unforgettable. One more reason why Sidney Poitier was the best, too.

The reception of Uncharted has me remembering a similar reception for National Treasure. A really good shit film. Obviously you can’t expect Tom Holland or Mark Wahlberg to match the charisma of Nic Cage but I’ve already got a Sunday afternoon reserved for when I can illegally stream it and watch it for free. I’ll never forgive them for not casting Bryan Cranston as Sully though.

National Treasure's definitely one of the films that most benefits from my bias towards adventure films, the Japan to my Meltzer. Double the stars on that, Sahara, The Mummies, and the Jolie Tomb Raiders (I love the second!).

Sahara's so good. We got denied at least two sequels because nobody knows how to have fun.

Stupidly I've never seen the National Treasure films but I plan on addressing that soon.

I'm off to the cinema lads! Due to an astoundingly short attention span I've become a bit of a Michael Owen as I've got older. Last film I watched in the cinema was alien covenant when I was overseas, before that it was either quantum of solace or the wrestler.

They are playing the 3 godfather films over 3 weeks, so I'm off to see the first 2. If I stay awake all he way through I'll be amazed but it's worth a try.

Problem Child.

Jack Warden, John Ritter, Gilbert Gottfired, Michael Richards asking a load of black lads for a smoke, which hasn't aged well, and the pant pissingly ace birthday party for the kid next door.

A fine load of fine character actors. It's fucking ace.

@Onyx2and myself went to see Studio 666 Last night. It’s absolutely awful as a horror and a comedy. The foos are awful actors as well. But I’m sure it will become some cult favourite. At least 30 minutes too long.

The Batman is not a comic book film but a film based on a comic book. It’s a detective crime drama with some fight scenes thrown in. Paul Dano is the lamest looking villain in a film for a long time and also the most menacing. R Patz does a great job at being an emo kid from 2003. Zoe Kravitz is great as always. It’s the Batman film Nolan wanted to make and didn’t. Genuinely surprised at how great it is, and how good Matt Reeves is as a director. 4/5

Whats the difference? Or do you just mean it's not the bombastic OTT stuff people expect based on Marvel etc? Quite a few reviews have said it's actually pretty accurate to some of the Batman comics rather than what the movies blew him up to be on the big screen.
