It seems that as you keep playing and plugging away, more and more layers of gameplay reveal themselves. It's just excellent, and I'm incredibly lucky that there isn't a proper Android version or else I'd be truly fucked. I couldn't tell you a lick about the soundtrack though, as it's also an excellent podcast game. Up there with Slay The Spire, Rogue Legacy, Dead Cells, Hades, and Binding Of Isaac as games to work on your podcast queue. And I've not even moved past the first character yet, despite unlocking more than a dozen more so far. I haven't mentioned Vampire Survivors in my sporadic posting on here. Honestly one of the best and most addictive games in years though. The soundtrack is superb but I also find its one of the best games to just switch off to with a podcast on. For weeks on end me and my friend were just going back and forth with video messages of our increasingly insane overpowered builds. I must have put 100+ hours in and thats just since it came onto Game Pass. Quote
Cousin Jim Bob Posted January 31, 2023 Posted January 31, 2023 You can get Vampire Survivors on your phone too. Completely free and the only ads are optional if you want more gold at the end of a run. If you have rinsed the game on PC or console do it again on your phone lol. Quote

Keith Houchen Posted January 31, 2023 Posted January 31, 2023 Ah bollocks. Battlefield 2042 seem to have a retro weekend with traditional classes. And there was me building up stats with gadgets for a cheevo. Think we are getting a Series X this weekend so she can play Hogwarts Legacy when it’s released. Quote
CAREBEAR LUVVA Posted January 31, 2023 Posted January 31, 2023 Good timing. The free PowerWash Simulator DLC is out today, so you can go to Lara Croft's house and clean it in 4K. They've announced a Final Fantasy DLC today too. Quote
Dr. Alan Grant Posted January 31, 2023 Posted January 31, 2023 I ordered a Steam Deck today. Already started to add games to my wishlist on the store. But I’ll probably end up downloading emulators and trying to finally complete Toejam & Earl 2 before I play a new game. Quote
Paid Members Weezenal Posted January 31, 2023 Paid Members Posted January 31, 2023 Can you play your Epic store games on Steam Deck? I don't need any more reasons to buy one so shouldn't have asked. Quote

Guest Posted January 31, 2023 Posted January 31, 2023 I'm assuming Weezenal wants to play all those stockpiled weekly freebies, so it's actually good news for the bank account. Quote

Feel free to DM me if you have any questions, want recommendations or if you simply want to know if a specific game runs well (obviously I won’t always be able to help with that one) I hope you enjoy it, it’s pushed the Switch aside as my console of choice - I absolutely love it. Hello old friend, glad to have your calming influence back. Really does come under the “Mindfulness” banner for me! Quote

I’ll absolutely take some recommendations. I’ll be using emulators (EmuDeck seems to be one for that) to play everything from NES games to GameCube, but if there are any essential PC games I can get from the store, fire away. I’ll most likely leave the AAA titles such as Elden Ring to my PS5, but any indie games or exclusives I should get for the Deck? I’ve played Vampire Survivors a little on my phone, so I’ll definitely get that. Someone has also suggested using CDKeys to sometimes get games cheaper than in the Steam Store. Quote

It's definitely worth shopping around for games, quite often games for sale on Steam are cheaper elsewhere. I typically use Fanatical or Humble. I'd also suggest signing up for Humble Choice, which gives you a selection of games each month for the price of a monthly subscription. You also get a discount in their store for the price of your membership. If you're not interested in that month's games, simply choose to skip the month and you won't be charged (though your store discount resets) There are loads of great indie games worth your time, and while it obviously depends on what you enjoy personally, here are a few I liked a lot: Brotato (similar to Vampire Survivors), Arcade Paradise, Bear & Breakfast, Cult of the Lamb, Chicory, Chained Echoes, The Excavation of Hob's Barrow, Faith, The Forgotten City, Unmetal, Grapple Dog, A Hat in Time, Hypnospace Outlaw, Immortality, I was a Teenage Exocolonist, Inscryption, Kynseed, A Short Hike, Omori (which has become my favourite ever game - such a powerful story), Norco, Reventure, Crystal Project and Wyldermyth. Almost all of these have been on sale at some point over the past few months, and will be again - I usually wishlist things, and you automatically get alerts when there's a discount. In terms of free games, Sonic Triple Trouble 16-bit is definitely worth your time. It's one of the best 2D Sonic games I've ever played, and the qualty is ridiculously high, given that it's a fan game. Sonic and The Fallen Star is also excellent. Quote
Guest Posted February 1, 2023 Posted February 1, 2023 I'll second the recommendation for A Short Hike. And if anyone's looking for more of the same, Haven Park's not as good but scratches the itch if you get it cheap. Quote
Paid Members FLips Posted February 1, 2023 Paid Members Posted February 1, 2023 A Short Hike is a lovely little game. I got it as part of an Itch.io charity bundle a few years ago and really enjoyed it. Quote
