Some definite signs now that we may have hit the peak of the virus - 7 day averaged deaths have begun to drop.

Our testing remains piss poor, just pathetic.

Yes the testing numbers is ridiculous. Only when we get that firing on all cylinders can we start to think about normality returning. Testing and isolating is the most effective way of dealing with this.

What are we making of the new "we're not lifting the lockdown, but if you want to go somewhere rife with the virus to say goodbye to loved ones we won't stop you" statement from the government today?

It's them absolving responsibility as usual.  On a related note, and I know it's social media, but this "Lets replace Red Nose Day with NHS day" and other such nice intended ideas are doing my swede in.  The NHS isn't a charity and if we treat it like one, it takes the blame away for its condition from those who have been crippling it for 10 years.

I said to a friend today that Labour should have sent a campaign bus around talking a out how much money billionaires managed to avoid paying in taxes through tax breaks and loopholes, and how that could be used to fund the NHS during the last election.

If only there was another way for the public to all get together and find a way to help the NHS over the past ten years. If only the leading political parties in this country could tell us all how they'd make it better and we as a country could decide to make it a focal point in our decision making when voting who we'd like to fix it.

Oh well, at least they'll have that extra £350m a week.

Wouldn't make a bit of difference.

Most people don't give a shit.

Spoke to my brother earlier. My dad was on a mask ventilator and the next 6 days would be crucial. If he remained on that he’d probably be leaving next week.

He just called me back to say he’s being sedated to be put on a full ventilator (or whatever the correct terms are, I’m not sure exactly so I apologise). So thinks are looking grim at the moment. Also found out they wouldn’t test my mum even though he was tested and they assumed he had it.

My brother is distressed and all I can do is speak to him on the phone. He may never get a chance to say goodbye. It’s all becoming more serious now

Not that I support the government, but this is an issue they really need to address properly. The notion that people are being told their family members are dying yet they can't say goodbye is ridiculous. Can you imagine the psychological fallout that shitloads of people are going to be dealing with once this is over? Knowing that a family member knew they were dying, and saw out their last days and hours with no way to see their loved ones?

There has to be a way that this can be negotiated as safely as possible. Just telling folk "aye pal, your mums likely going to die within a week. But you stay in your house and watch Netflix now, okay?" isn't really the answer.

I'm sorry for your news Hannibal. However the Government did say yesterday you can visit terminal relatives, if your brother can accept the risk.

He's got 2 young kids unfortunately, so he's not going to risk it. They have only been out shopping once since the lock down to minimize risk

Am I the only person who feels quite disgusted we have to applaud a near 100 year old man for raising money for the NHS, because the Government didn't bother? I'm struggling to join the Facebook-happy bandwagon on this one.

I said the same to my wife this morning. Similar to the NHS telethon thing they are doing on the BBC soon. If we are expected to treat the NHS as such, it's going to end up being something we are expected to prop up as a charity and not the essential service that the government actually fund properly.

It's 'Help the Hero's' all over again.

I'm also thinking about making an "APPLAUD YOUR NHS BY STAYING INDOORS" banner with a winky smile and arrow pointing at the neighbours house who loves to applaud our helath workers almost as much as she loves having piss heads round to share her inflateable hot tub with her kids on the weekend.
