Papas … great TripAdvisor reviews and loads of complimentary articles

Paid £13 for a “standard” haddock and chips, within touching distance of the price of two portions elsewhere…

good but not worth the price -

Sunday went to far less heralded Number One before we left… paid £9.60 for a good portion of cod and chips - fresh crisp batter,

Mrs Raid said “good but not outstanding” and I agree, tasty without being memorable but for a decent price in a nice setting with great service.

A seafront kiosk called Fellas with a sign boasting “80 years of tradition” would have been our first choice on the Sunday but it wasn’t open yet, though the reviews seem mixed.

Papas might be the best shout but we’re talking rip-off prices EVEN for a seaside tourist trap, so if I were you I’d probably just look for the longest queue and take a punt.

Anyone know of any good Chip shops in Scarborough?h

The finest fish and chips I have ever had were from Mother Hubbards at the top end of Westborough.  It’s not a take away but a sit down resteraunt and nothing to do with the piss poor chain.  Just sublime.

There's a Fish and Chips restaurant along the A64 on the way to Pickering. Does anyone know if its any good?

Pickering also has a Traditional Fish and Chip shop. I keep seeing signs for it. Haven't found it yet. Unless its the restaurant on the main shopping St.

Sea View Chippy in Saltburn had an enormous queue at 1430.

I'm off to God's country - Hull - for the first time in a couple of weeks. Mostly for @tiger_rick but are there any chippies you would recommend?

It’s well off the beaten track but Chesters is a cracking chippy, and in my humble and fat-arsed opinion, the best in Hull. Highly recommend trying their “Irish” curry sauce which is a more sweet and spicy version of the usual. If you’re driving (which you’d probably need to if going here) then there’s a carpark with views of the Humber just two minutes down the road, where you may get to watch ships make their way in or out of the docks.

I’m not sure of any decent chippies in the city centre but there are two great pubs which do a good fish and chips. The Lion & Key which also has the best beer selection in the city, or The Minerva which is a bit of a Hull institution.

p.s don’t bother with chip spice or a patty, both are overrated.

Not quite Hull but Sam's Chippy in Hessle (where the Humber Bridge is) is always great and is a beautiful, clean family business. Dundee chippy on Chants Ave is really good, especially handy if you're off to the footy or rugby at the MKM Stadium.

If you're in the City centre, I'd avoid Bob Carvers. Famous old name and a tradition at the fair in October but generally shite. If you want a sit down meal, I agree about the Lion & Key. Great beer and their fish and chips are really good. Also handy if you're with someone who wants something else. My sister in law had a salad.

late August/early September, The Third Annual Old Age In-laws Chippy Tour rolls through Cornwall again.

Part 1

They’ve been with us a week and though we started two weeks in Cornwall today, we graced Llandudno/Barnacles last Sunday.

Haddock and chips twice and as a cost save I forewent curry sauce as I really fancied those beer battered onion rings - which were even better than I remembered. £20-odd quid and really tasty even if I think the portions are getting smaller.

Probably a St Ives trip tomorrow weather permitting. Had pasties today.

Visited Grellys on Great Yarmouth seafront. Never disappoints and provided an exceptional meal. Medium cod and chips with curry sauce for the wife, cod bites and chips for me with potato fritters all cooked in beef dripping. About £27 including 2 cans of pop,.but my God it was amazing. Perfectly cooked batter and fresh fish inside just cooked perfectly.
