A quick look at his Wikipedia page shows his wife died of a random heart attack at only 40 a few years back too. He’s since remarried (and not to be insensitive but he’s punching) but he’s had a rough few years for sure. Quote

Thefatduck Posted May 25, 2025 Posted May 25, 2025 Travelling from Birmingham to the wee Isle of Arran, our ferry departure was changed from Ardrossan to Troon. Quick google search showed this place. Wee Hurrie An actual hole in the wall, on the harbour (working, not tourist) with a few wooden tables to stand at and eat. batter was thin, crispy and allowed the fish to steam to perfection. fish was simply delicious, we had whiting, cod and haddock. Around £8-9 each. chips were plump and fluffy - perfect. £3.50. No pictures as I was trying to hold the dog and eat at the same time. If you are in the area I would recommend. Quote

Hard to believe but in the three years since moving into the “forever home” we’ve not established a local, only going for a chippy when we’re by the seaside or one visit to Wrights in Mcr centre when her folks were here. Well, she decided we needed to celebrate her handing her notice in and getting a new job, so we headed for the highest rated chippy within walking distance of our Tesco - Kingfishers’ which sticks out the arse end of “Salford Shopping City.” Cod n chips twice (they don’t do haddock), Irish curry sauce (from a choice of regular or Chinese) and three scallops - Mrs raid added without explanation, guess she was just in the mood, £21.50. Cracking choice all round. Fish and scallops were fried to order - scallops at 3 for £1.40 were a great addition and I couldn’t help sticking a dollop of Roleski 3 Garlic sauce from the Polish shop on the plate for dipping, glad we saved Mrs raids opinion of scallops after a previous disappointment - they were lovely. Fish was beautifully fresh tasting, crisp and meaty, definitely the most I remember the wife enjoying cod, and my very first chip had a great flavour that set the tone. Curry was very nice too, not sure what made it Irish but it had a little kick that crept up on me. Best of all Mrs raids eyes had been bigger than her belly for once so I ate half of hers too. Cracking meal, great find, I look forward to sampling their other curry sauces and battered sausage. God only knows how we’ll celebrate if my interview goes well on Tuesday. Biggest delay you’ll get til more chips - we’re going to Cornwall for our anniversary in June, then late August/early September, The Third Annual Old Age In-laws Chippy Tour rolls through Cornwall again.
