I feel like the moment for a Michael Jackson biopic has came and went. His star has very much faded in the years since his death. I feel any time he’s been casually brought up in recent years at places like work or conversation with other people, it’s more about his alleged paedophilia or how weird he was rather than his music. 
I can’t remember the last time I heard someone talk about his songs rather than Finding Neverland or whatever. 
Obviously that’s the legacy he left for himself, but I can’t see the audience for this biopic being massive if it’s about him as a musician. This TikTok and Netflix generation will want some Ed Gein style crime documentary about him sleeping with boys and changing his skin colour, dangling babies out of windows and shit. Something they can make content off.

I feel the exact opposite. I'd say interest in his music is really high among younger people, my kids love his music for example.

I don't think his star has faded that much since his death at all.

Excited to see who they've cast as Blanket and Bubbles though.

If the Family Fortunes topic was "Michael Jackson" the top answer given by our hundred people surveyed would be "nonce/noncing."  That star is now so faded industrial strength brasso isn't shining it up.  Unless the argument is that is was already gone by the time he died, in which case as you were.

I think that might be an Anglo centric view. I still hear his music everywhere.

Yeah I think the timing is probably really good from a commercial perspective. His music has the lasting power that there's plenty of new interest in it, and those young people won't remember what a weirdo he was. Plenty of people were ambivalent to the allegations, and just looked to make jokes because it was in the public eye. And his hardcore older fanbase haven't gone anywhere and is still huge. 

I'll not be watching it though because all music biopics are dogshit.
