Goldberg going on Ariel Helwani’s podcast to complain about his retirement match getting thrown together with three week’s notice, not being what he hoped, and being pissed off about them cutting him off.

Should’ve done the Wardlow match in AEW instead!

WWE wanted to steal the conversation this weekend. Unfortunately it’s just wrestlers like Trish and Goldberg, with nothing to lose, slagging them off for using their talent as disposable counter-programming fodder.

Gonna be funny when Bret Hart and Goldberg become best friends thanks to a mutual dislike of Triple H. Eye rolls all round.

Goldberg isn't far wrong, though I'd have more sympathy for him if he didn't complain about everything in his career that wasn't presenting him as the unstoppable real hard man who could easily beat everyone in a proper fight. And people say Bret's the one who's bitter and takes himself too seriously!

From what I've read of WWE, it doesn't sound like anything else is being booked all that competently or with any long-term plan in mind, so it's not like they've uniquely fucked Goldberg around with the build, he's just a victim of business as usual.

How else should they have booked Goldberg's retirement? They'd set the thing up with Gunther, made him seem like a legitimate threat in the build and put him in a main event on one of the biggest platforms available. Short of having him demolish Gunther, which he didn't seem physically able to do and would have been pure lunacy, and them cutting off his speech I don't know what more there was to do with him really.

I'm not convinced he needed a bigger build, or it had to be on a PLE etc.

He got a massive reaction there. If anything, he could've run the risk of a crowd turning on him if it was at a normal PLE with casual viewers trying to get themselves over.

The thing at the end about being cut off - well, they put the entire thing on YouTube so it's not like they're fucking him over completely.

He's just really fucking whiny.

Has that happened for him during any of the matches in his second WWE run? I feel like he’s been received pretty warmly. 

I think he could have had a better send-off, but presumably he agreed to the plans in the first place. 

I would’ve be shocked if he ended up wrestling a few more matches elsewhere much as Sting did. Roll on the tag team with Darby Allin.

Goldberg looked really shocking in that match. Seemed to be dragging his leg the whole time, completely knackered and wanted to get to the finish. He just seems like an old roid head with no gas in him who would hurt someone for real (and seems to.) Maybe he'll end up like Flair did, and just pass out in the corner of a tag match in a few years.

It's certainly not the case where he's turning up and getting booed like Hogan obviously. I just think they couldn't have done much better in setting him up with a pro-Goldberg crowd that then did at SNME. So once you shift away from that, I do think it becomes riskier.

If the political situation with Israel and Palestine stabilises a bit and he thinks there's money in it I reckon he'll do one more match out there. He was banging on about the idea before WWE re-signed him so if he's already unhappy and can make a big payday for one more, on his own terms (so presumably a spear and jackhammer based squash where he looks invincible) I definitely reckon it'll happen.

Goldberg said previously that he had approved all of the "creative" for his retirement.   It was clearly all planned months ago that it would be against Gunther.   He also specifically said he wanted it to be in Atlanta, so that limited the options for when the match would be quite a bit.   Him coming out, challenging Gunther, Gunther accepting, then a bit of back and forth between them.   How on Earth could they have stretched that story out for more than 3 weeks?

It could have been a little bit better, but not that much better, I don't think.

Goldie's gone on record saying that laughing at Gunther's chops was an accident and just came out because they didn't hurt for real, motherfucker still doesn't get it's a work.

I casually tune into WWE every so often and Goldberg usually draws me in.

Everything felt a bit flat tbh.

I would much rather Goldberg came out and just kicked Gunter in the bollocks, Spear, Jackhammer, DQ, Short promo along the lines of 'I am not the Goldberg I used to be and was never going to win in a straight fight tonight, but WHO CARES I still kicked your ass'

That way he gets the crowd pop, Gunter is still champ and Goldberg admits he was never going to win but does his Goldberg thing anyway.

This is also why I don't work for WWE creative.
