Paid Members Bettencourt Posted April 20, 2016 Paid Members Share Posted April 20, 2016 Phil Spencer has just tweeted out that they are stopping the manufacture of Xbox 360s. Doubt this is too newsworthy now that we're nearly 3 years into Xbox One. But some folk may be interested.
Merzbow
Amazon have decided to sell certain games only to prime members, you can still buy them from 3rd party sellers but if you want GTAV on the PS4 directly from Amazon for example you'll have to have a prime subscription. Â Really? Sneaky fuckers. They're not particularly cheap on Amazon anyway, and I'd be more likely to buy from a 3rd party (Marketplace, yeah?) seller on there anyway, so no great loss but still. That's a risky strategy that could backfire.
Steve Justice
That seems utterly ridiculous. It's not like they're not available from other sites and stores. If they were exclusive to Amazon (or for a limited time) it would make more sense. This is just baffling.
Paid Members PunkStep Posted April 22, 2016 Paid Members Share Posted April 22, 2016 Exactly. Nobody is going to sign up for Prime just so they can get Far Cry Primal from Amazon. Well I'm sure some will, but surely the number will be massively outweighed (even taking into account the extra subscriptions they'll get) by those that'll think "Fuck it, I'll just get it from somewhere else". The King Of Swing
I'm a Prime subscriber but I wouldn't buy a Prime locked game out of principle. Will be checking my pre orders later. Â Just a baffling move.
Metallica
Amazon Prime members in the US get a 20% discount on games, that would be the way to go here rather than not selling a game to non Prime members. Paid Members GlennCullen Posted April 22, 2016 Paid Members Share Posted April 22, 2016 It'll be a proof of concept. Y'all the guinea pigs.
Merzbow
If anyone was looking at buying Lichdom Battlemage think again, it's possibly the worst performing game ever made. I'm surprised that neither Sony nor MS told the devs to do one, what happened to quality control? Â
Paid Members chokeout Posted April 22, 2016 Paid Members Share Posted April 22, 2016 They don't have to bother with quality control any more because they can just patch it after release which means that developers can release games in any old state to meet a deadline. Â The frame rate on that is shocking. No idea why they didn't just have it running at 620/960 to try and sort it out.
Merzbow
We're seeing too many games that are never properly patched after either, Arkham Knight still doesn't work properly on PC. There's too much of a "fuck it, let's just risk it" mentality, but I'd imagine a lot of that is down to pushy publishers. I'm still mad that KOTOR 2 was rushed out by publishers for Xmas all those years ago.
Slapnut
I'm thinking of picking up an Xbox One or PS4 because a few games I fancy getting aren't coming out on the 360. Â I know it's a case of apples or oranges, but which is better?
Paid Members SpursRiot2012 Posted April 22, 2016 Paid Members Share Posted April 22, 2016 PS4 is slightly more powerful than an Xbox. Beyond that, go where your friends are plus whichever has the exclusives you want.
Merzbow
I can't say which is better (actually it's the PS4 for Bloodborne..) BUT there is a new upgraded PS4 coming out so might be best not to grab one of the current ones just yet.
Awards Moderator Onyx2 Posted April 22, 2016 Awards Moderator Share Posted April 22, 2016 The word from Sony is that there shouldn't be Neo exclusives. Unless Slapnut you must have 4K, go with Spursy and follow friends / exclusives. Â It feels like this generation is much better at *not* having exclusives. Or maybe it's just too soon in the lifecycle.
