WyattSheepMask Posted February 8, 2015 Posted February 8, 2015 I reckon they may add more Nitro once they get to the end of 96 on the Raw Replays
Briefcase Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 Where would be a good place to start watching some WCW? I know it had its highs and lows but any recommendations?
Moderators PowerButchi Posted February 9, 2015 Moderators Posted February 9, 2015 Wrestle War 92, or for the best PPV ever Great American Bash 1989. There's no fluff on that, everymatch is at lease "decent", it even has a honest-to-god great Manager's tuxedo match, and the heat for the card is off the charts/
andrew "the ref" coyne Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 Where would be a good place to start watching some WCW? I know it had its highs and lows but any recommendations? Interestingly enough I was about to jump on here and put some random thoughts / appreciation for the early Nitros. It's a well constructed show. I'm currently watching the run up to Halloween Havoc (Hogan vs. Giant) and I have to say, it's a very well constructed show. It's 45 minutes long so easy to watch, and rotates through the big names so they don't get over exposed. They are aptly hyping up a Ric Flair / Arn Anderson fued (also featuring Sting and Brian Pillman) which is "exclusive" to Nitro, and does a good job of getting you to look forward to the following weeks show. Then in the meantime they are building up Giant vs. Hogan superbly for Halloween Havoc. The Giant is looking like a monster, easily man handling the likes of Macho Man and Lex Luger, whilst Hogan is looking vulnerable in more than one way. They then pepper the show with Cruiserweight matches, a few matches with big names to move stories forward, and a couple of squashes to give guys like Sting a reason to be on the show. It's fairly simple and straightforward, but by giving you a mix of match types, hyping up next weeks Nitro AND the PPV, they are using a simple and straightforward model that just works. The run up to Halloween Havoc starts from Nitro 5 onwards, so I recommend you just start from the first episode. Edit: Oh christ. Forget what I said.... I just got to the fucking debut of the Yeti.
Paid Members DEF Posted February 9, 2015 Paid Members Posted February 9, 2015 Do they have Nitro ep 1-13? I only see 14 onwards. EDIT - Ah im a dummy and assumed it listed everything but it lists it by year.
Paid Members Egg Shen Posted February 9, 2015 Paid Members Posted February 9, 2015 watched the first episode of Tuesday Night Titans...what a strange show. Alfred Hayes just seems to be sat on set for no particular reason and chimes in with some strange comments, the guy is out of his mind.
Reznor Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 Wrestle War 92, or for the best PPV ever Great American Bash 1989.......... Don't do that or you'll never make it to the good stuff at the end! Lightheavyweight match aside, it's practically all horseshit until the big one (no, i'm not forgetting one!). I guess watching the home release eases things a bit, but it's still a slog. GAB 89 is the pinnacle with the only downside being that if you watch it to begin with, it's all downhill thereafter. In an ideal world, GAB should be watched as part of following weekly TV chronologically throughout 1989 imo, as WCW/NWA was so fantastic during that time. I've been going through the first 20 or so Clashes since the turn of the year. Not on the network though, they're all up in decent quality on one of the streaming sites. They're all good fun, even when the matches aren't racking up the snowflakes. WCW usually tried to pack loads into them, so they tended to be a bit condensed compared to full PPVs, with quicker matches that got straight to the point with little wasted time. It wasn't a bad thing because the result was they were really easy to watch and the time flew by, but they still brought a nice mix of good-to-great matches, stories and angles, competitive squashes, and exposure to practically the whole roster. And you still got the odd genuine PPV classic in amongst them, like Dustin/mystery guy vs Enforcers, and quite a few in '89. They also looked great - until Watts came in anyway. They were roughly every quarter and gave a good snapshot of that time, so if you get them on the network, imo they'd be quite a good place to start for a fun overview of what was happening at the time.
Mr.Showtime Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 Watching Raw is War from May 10, 1999 and the main event is HHH, Taker & Shane vs Rock, Austin & Vince. There are two clips throughout the show of Stone Cold backstage preparing for the main event, and he's wearing the black boots, black knee brace, black wrist bands, black 3:16 jacket...and RED SHORTS?! It looks so weird! I remember watching these episodes at the time but not him wearing shorts at any time (apart from jean shorts, obviously). When Austin hits the ring, they've disappeared. Can't find any images of them online. On another note, Patterson & Briscoe are megastars as they take on the Mean Street Posse. Mental.
