King of Hamptons
Yep put me down in the great slasher category for the new Halloween.. I loved the little Easter eggs, it was well balanced.. Curtis was a absolute bad ass in it too. I got goosebumps when that familier theme song kicked in during the film.
Paid Members chokeout Posted October 19, 2018 Paid Members Share Posted October 19, 2018 Just got out of Halloween now and loved it. Didn't try anything silly like adding back story or extra motives and was all the better for it. There's a steadycam tracking shot in it which is the best thing I've seen in a film like this in a long time and a lovely nod to how the original was made.
Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted October 19, 2018 Author Paid Members Share Posted October 19, 2018 Also, the music was great. Hearing that theme in a cinema was an amazing experience.
zep81
Holy fuck this is brutal. Action porn at it's best, but still with really likable characters (well the good guys obviously lol). Iko Uwais is of course in this and is as great as always, but the movie is not just about him and the cast around him are excellent. Watch this shit. Saw the trailer for this last week and was surprised how quickly they were releasing it on Netflix(today) I’ll definitely be watching this tomorrow

It's fucking wild. Two broken and brutally-severed thumbs way up.
Brewster McCloud
Yesterday I watched The Circle and Leave No Trace. The Circle was sort of OK, and I liked Tom Hanks' lampooning of Steve Jobs' oratory. However, the whole thing was far too on the nose and technophobic to be taken seriously as satire. Leave No Trace was profoundly boring and it took all my willpower to make it to the end. A poor man's The Road, but even more pretentious and glum.

Just got round to watching this, 2 hour film, where the story is pretty non existent but the action is amazing, gory as fuck. Â Loved it.
Paid Members Jazzy G Posted October 20, 2018 Paid Members Share Posted October 20, 2018 Watched the new Johnny English last weekend. We were visiting friends and everybody wanted to go and see it. It was alright. I think I set the bar low as far as expectations, but it knows exactly what it is, gets on with doing what it's doing reasonably well and doesn't outstay its welcome. You can see the jokes coming a mile away, but they're sufficiently well executed that it doesn't really feel contrived. It's not going to be bothering the Academy Awards panel, but it wasn't the worst 90 minutes I've spent in a cinema.
Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted October 20, 2018 Author Paid Members Share Posted October 20, 2018 Saw Goosebumps 2 today. Not my choice you understand, but actually far more entertaining than I was expecting.
Brewster McCloud
Just watch the original, FFS. This culture of endless remakes and reboots has reached its limit A pox on it. Just make a new thing, horror directors!
Keith Houchen
Coco. Was pretty decent, didn't knock it out of the park or anything but decent enough.
Brewster McCloud
Over The Top: the kid is such a prick. Not Sly's best hour and Terry Funk was sadly underutilised. There's really no way to make hand wrestling cinematic unless fatties straining like they're taking a particularly troublesome shit is your cup of tea. Remakes have always been around it's just distribution and volume are far greater now. There's still loads of fresh horror out there. It's pretty easy to ignore remakes. Plus John Carpenter's The Thing is bloody brilliant. Horror is genre that fits well for remakes imo.
Moderators Chest Rockwell Posted October 21, 2018 Moderators Share Posted October 21, 2018 I finally got around to watching Ready Player One, as I have been meaning to for a while now. It's nothing special, but it was a decent fun for what it was. I know a lot had to change to make it work as a film; some of the changes worked better than others. The race was really good, but the second challenge was pretty lame on screen.
