I'm a weird Oscars completist - I just want to be able to tick those boxes even if the films aren't actually that good!
Paid Members ColinBollocks Posted March 1, 2018 Paid Members Share Posted March 1, 2018 Seeing as I'm off and got little on, I'm going through the Daniel Craig Bond films again (yes, even the baffling Quantum of Solace). This statement is hardly news, but the opening chase scene in Casino Royal is absolutely brilliant. I've not watched the film in years and forgot how well done that scene is. The chase gets more and more compelling as it unravels to tell the story that while the fella Bond is chasing is younger, faster and more athletic, Bond is all brawn, will and guile. Plus, Eva Green. Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted March 1, 2018 Author Paid Members Share Posted March 1, 2018 Some things are best left uncompleted, man. Or in this case, absolutely nowhere near completed.
Mr_Danger
Did The Piano win best picture? I hope it did so he has to watch that too. I'm spiteful.

Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted March 2, 2018 Author Paid Members Share Posted March 2, 2018 Watched Goon last night, really good stuff despite being about ice hockey. Almost as good as Slap Shot but with added Alison Pill, who is lovely. Also just watched A Date for Mad Mary. Think @Scott Malbranque might have mentioned it on here but I'm not sure. Super little drama and Seana Kerslake looks so much like Scarlett Johansson, it's ridiculous. She's also really good, judging by this. Worth finding. Paid Members Bellenda Carlisle Posted March 3, 2018 Paid Members Share Posted March 3, 2018 Whenever Liev Schreiber is mentioned I always have to bring up this amazing but insanely frustrating documentary I saw years ago about him helping a young Arabic wannabe film-maker who turns out to be an arsehole, it was mental and I really recommend it. The Rock's in it too and him and Liev both seem really cool. I finally found out what it's called as well this time; Operation Filmmaker. If anyone knows where it can be watched I'd love to see it again. Awards Moderator HarmonicGenerator Posted March 3, 2018 Awards Moderator Share Posted March 3, 2018 (edited) Because we never use Prime Video, we cancelled it this afternoon which means our access to it stops on the 9th. So naturally we decided to use it today to watch as much as possible before it’s gone. Watched Moonlight, because Best Picture winner, but spent tonight watching The Big Sick, which is a lovely film - I’d heard good things but was pleasantly surprised by just how good it was. Really enjoyed it. What else do we need to watch on Amazon before we lose it? Edited March 3, 2018 by HarmonicGenerator
Paid Members ColinBollocks Posted March 3, 2018 Paid Members Share Posted March 3, 2018 (edited) If you're into The Beatles, they've got the Ron Howard directed Eight Days A Week - very good. The Red Turtle was maybe my favourite film I saw last year. It's a silent cartoon (with ambient noise and score), but it's not as poncy as you'd rightly presume. My Life As A Courgette is a breezy 65 minutes and it's a lovely little film; again, one of my favourites from last year. Land of Mine is a German-Danish film about German soldiers being forced to clear up mines right after the war. Yeah, can be a bit grim. Anyway, some others I can think of (if you haven't): Hell Or High Water Mean Streets Manchester By The Sea I, Daniel Blake  There's a lot more that I'm not remembering. Amazon Prime has a really good selection. Edited March 3, 2018 by ColinBollocks

Really Big Shoe
Liev does the narration for quite a lot of the NFL film documentaries too. Eight Days a Week is a really good doc. The Anthology series of docs is the one which is the most detailed though. There's also the unofficial docs about the individual albums, a PBS one to name but a few.
