No pics but one of our cats passed away at the weekend. I don't know when or how but we were away and came back last night and he was just there on the floor. I assumed he was just sleeping but no. I've been an absolute mess ever since. Shock to start with. Guilt that I wasn't here to say goodbye or to look after him. He'd been sick a few times lately but I didn't think this would happen. I'm okay for a while and then one of the kids say they miss him or the youngest (3) asks when he's coming back and I just break down again.

We got him and his sister when we first moved in together so they were really like our kids before we ever had kids. I'm so gutted that our 3rd in September will never get to meet him. He was so fucking lovely to everyone. Absolutely in pieces right now. Can't get it out of my fucking head and his sister keeps laying on me which she never does.

Really sorry for your loss, man - that must have really hit hard, can't even imagine how that must feel or how to deal with something out of the blue like that. My deepest condolences.

@DavidB6937sorry to hear about your loss. It's like losing a family member. You think it's OK then something reminds you and you're off again. I hope you manage to find a way to explain to your youngest what's going on.

I'm not a cat person. Never have been. I'm a dog guy. No one else in the family is. But my daughter has begged for so long to get a cat I agreed but we had to get the right temperament. Not one of these 'enough affection thanks, I'm scratching you now' bastards or 'I'm going to be alone for two days apart from food thanks' twats but essentially a dog in disguise. That's my own hangups but the best compromise I can come up with. 

And we found him. Here's Tom. The soppiest cat I've ever met, who loves hugs and sits somewhere near you at all times.

I prefer dogs to cats. I think our cat knows this and has decided that her job is to change my opinion. Her gimmick at the moment is sitting on my shoulder, nuzzling up to my face and purring.
