Paid Members Arch Stanton Posted April 3, 2016 Paid Members Posted April 3, 2016 Saw that the June venues were announced, is the echo arena massive?! Blackpool was class but worried it won't be anywhere near as good in a huge arena Blackpool was probably the smallest venue on the last tour, in most other cities they were in big arenas with reduced capacity configurations.
adequate8 Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 Got lucky with Blackpool it seems! Still tempted for Lpool though to see Nakamura
Paid Members Bellenda Carlisle Posted April 3, 2016 Paid Members Posted April 3, 2016 I was going to come in here to say that I had no idea who Nakamura was before the show but as soon as I saw him I was so impressed with how uniquely he carries himself that I can't wait to see more. Then I saw that nearly everyone is saying the same thing. He really does seem special, most potential I've seen since the Shield debut.
Undefeated Steak Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 American Alpha vs The Revival is one of my favourite tag matches/opening matches in years/if ever. Such great chemistry. Exactly what a modern day tag match should be. American Alpha are over like Rover and The Revival are a fantastic, old school heel outfit. Brilliant. Nakamura. Wow. Just wow. Best debut match I've ever seen. The praise and hype is totally justified. I've seen a few people mention that he needs to go straight to the main roster but I can't see where the rush is? What's wrong with giving him a year in NXT with a 6 month title reign? I'd much prefer that personally. I fucking love the NXT Takeovers. "It's like living in an alternate reality" has become a cliche but fuck it, it really does feel like it.

I'd much prefer that personally.I agree, but only because I'm as selfish as you are. If we accept that NXT is designed to iron out the kinks and create WWE-ready stars, and IF Nakamura is already at a level where he could seriously benefit the main shows without being exposed, then keeping him in NXT would only serve to tickle the belly of geeks like us. I say, if they've got enough faith in him to let him keep his act, warts and all, bring him up right away and let him shine. The main roster is crying out for that sort of unique, unpredictable, chaotic charisma. It'd be like that period just after the first 'pipe bomb' where you were happy to watch all sorts of shit, just waiting to see what the fuck Punk would do next. These days, even the people you like can be too staid and predictable.
King Pitcos Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 I've seen a few people mention that he needs to go straight to the main roster but I can't see where the rush is? What's wrong with giving him a year in NXT with a 6 month title reign? He's 36. Every moment he spends in developmental is a moment he's not making a difference on the real show, and that's the one that needs difference-makers. So far it looks like he doesn't need the development, so judging by the 2016 debuts, it's better to bring him in like outside megastar AJ Styles than Sami "some cunt from developmental" Zayn. NXT is leaving keyboards and PS4 controllers splattered in jism no matter what. WWE's more pressing creative concern is coming up with stuff that gets people to ejaculate on their cable remotes every Monday night.
Philjax Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 When was the last time there was a tag match of the openers' quality in WWE or WCW? Not including stip matches such as TLC or featuring thrown together main eventers such as Austin & HHH.

I'm not sure that he could seriously benefit the main shows yet, his whole act is geared towards tickling the belly of geeks like us isn't it? It's as niche as it gets. I could be wrong, but I don't see it easily translating to the mass market and appealing to the pure casuals. The only way I see that working is with the full weight of the WWE promotional machine behind him, which realistically just isn't going to happen. I think establishing him as a big deal in NXT is by far their safest bet if they want him to be something on the main roster.
David Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 the thing is, would any of these guys get the same reaction from the crowd and opportunity to do what they're doing in NXT on the main show? I read a rumour that Vince isn't impressed with the dudes in NXT all that much? Not sure if it's true.
Paid Members PunkStep Posted April 3, 2016 Paid Members Posted April 3, 2016 Triple H swiftly responded to that rumour by saying "he's sure spending a lot of money on something he doesn't like".
Paid Members Arch Stanton Posted April 3, 2016 Paid Members Posted April 3, 2016 It wouldn't surprise me if Vince isn't all that impressed with a lot of the guys he sees there, but I'm sure he's delighted with the success of the brand.
David Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 Fair enough. I'm still not convinced that the successful guys in NXT would be nearly as successful on the Raw or Smackdown shows though.

WWE's more pressing creative concern is coming up with stuff that gets people to ejaculate on their cable remotes every Monday night. Nobody thinks of The Shield as them cunts from development. It's all about how they're presented. And WWE don't have a pristine record of showing people in the best light on the main show. Even if Nakamura's 36 now, giving him a year in NXT and then putting him on the main roster at 37 isn't all that different. And everyone's happy. The nerds/us wans get to enjoy him in NXT and the casuals/main roster gets to benefit from him over the following 5 or however many years.
King Pitcos Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 Fair enough. I'm still not convinced that the successful guys in NXT would be nearly as successful on the Raw or Smackdown shows though. This is absolutely true. You can tell that Finn Balor is miles away from being on John Cena's (or even Dean Ambrose's) level, and there's work to be done. There's gimmicks/performers like Tyler Breeze, Emma and Adam Rose that just didn't translate well to the big arena weekly. And there are the likes of Hideo Itami who are probably too rubbish to catch on in the big time. But with Nakamura, I don't know what there is for him to work on -- maybe his English could be loads better in a year or two than it is now, but will he ever be a promo guy in the US? And they're desperate for charismatic, high-level performers at the minute. The iron might never be hotter.
