Exactly my point, baby talk for babies. Make sure you’ve got something swalty in your picky bits but remember little Britni won’t eat fricy or swicy.

THIS COUNTRY

I've never heard or even seen the words swalty, fricy or swicy in my life. What kind of people are you associating with?!

I said to my mates a while back that picky bits was modern speak that was replacing 'party food'/'finger food' and pretty much all of them said 'what are you talking about, it's been called picky bits forever', so either I'm being gaslit or I come from the one household in the Black Country that just didn't use it. It is twee rubbish though.

'Poorly' is definitely kiddie/toddler-speak round here, as evidenced by the fact my manager uses it to try to undermine / patronise us when we're off sick. 'Been poorly bad haven't you?' in a mock-caring tone, despite the fact he's ill more than anyone the massive massive prick.

The one that annoys me most is every Christmas, people acting like Elf On A Shelf is some time-honoured tradition and not some modern marketing ploy . I knows the kids love it but it gets right on my nerves.

You've heard of Elf on the Shelf but have you heard of Picky bits getting on Bacon's tits?

Has that phrase come from some shitty comedy in the 00's? If you asked me to pop a fiver on this I would guess it came from something like Gavin & Stacey and has then been reused on a bloody tik tok or similar. It's basically a verbal

If it did, it wouldn’t have come from Gavin & Stacey so you would’ve lost yourself a fiver. My mum was using that years before that show existed.

Elf On A Shelf

At one job I had, we had someone do it round the office for all of December and post photos of it every day like it was the most hilarious thing. She would come to work extra early to set it up. My idea of sticking it in the water cooler like an escape act gone wrong was nixed.

I wouldn't want that disgusting thing stewing in the water I was going to drink tbh.

I mean, it was said in a jokey way as an idea. I wasn’t serious about putting a doll that’s been put about the office in drinking water.

I feel like it has abated somewhat the last couple of years, but dimwits being excited by the John Lewis Christmas advert like it was some brilliant tradition was truly pathetic.

See also the Coca Cola truck.

I think that's a passage of time thing. Remember taking my daughter, now 21, to town to see the Coke truck when she was a toddler. Missus used to always go on about seeing the ad for the first time feeling like Christmas 20 years ago. So that feels like a tradition now.

It's probably the most genius bit of advertising ever that they managed to make their advert enough of a "thing" that the BBC reports on it every year. They can't show adverts, but they can do a front page article on the BBC News website talking all about this one specific one. Someone played a blinder there.

Picky bits has been around for donkey's years in my family, I don't remember ever calling it anything else. Mind you, I've gone right off it on recent years since it's entered the advertising stratosphere.

My old man always called picky bits a "cold spread", regardless of if there was anything cooked/warmed up as part of the spread.

I've encountered the Picky Bits brigade but I haven't yet come across anyone who calls it a cold spread other than my family.

I once saw the Coca Cola truck in real life, on the motorway (maybe the M3?) driving with my Dad. Assume it was off filming or something.

As a fizzy drinks nonce, it was one of the best moments of my life, I was genuinely stat struck 😆

This would be horrendous if you lived in Colombia
