I agree with Devon that this is a bollocks award as I don't think subjective individual awards should be given for team sports, but even putting my Spurs allegiance aside (as to be honest once a player leaves I really don't give a shit) it's impossible to say that over the last year he hasn't earned it.

He's a ridiculous player who's had a banner year in his career, and the others on the list haven't come near his level.

Yeah this is bang on for me. I don't like Kane for many reasons, but I can't see a wild issue with him winning a bollocks award after having a really good year. Especially as no-one else seems to have put forward a particularly convincing argument for someone being a better individual player in that time period for one reason or another.

He had a good year, but he's not the best footballer in the world, which is what it should be awarded on.

If it was true to it's original point of being awarded to the best footballer, Messi would have 20. But it isn't.

The top football journalists of the world who form the judging panel clearly don't agree.

It's a subjective award. Why you're putting this much stock onto arguing about it I have no idea

I’m still arguing Beckham should have won it ‘99

The first person to argue for anyone other than a forward, good lad.

For me, it's become and award for the player who has had the best 12 months on the pitch. Be that goals, assists, influence, trophies or a mix of the above, whoever has performed their role the best deserves the award. I like that, and I think its how it should be! I dont think, if you use that rationale, that Kane is an unworthy winner. Did i read somewhere its the second most goals ever scored over a calendar year? And if you use the "he plays for Bayern, he SHOULD win everything and score tons), why has all the word class forwards they have had like Levondowski(for example) not score 70 plus goals in a season?

I honestly think we've been lucky enough to watch one of the best 2 English goal scorers of all time(with Jimmy Greaves), and I think the fact he had to actually work to become that(those who coached him have said he was never a natural finisher when coming through) makes him a shining example to ALL young players in an age where they seem to think they are owed a career. Well done Harry Kane!

On the other hand, however they made a Ballon D'or shortlist without a single Barnsley player on there after the 12 months they have had, Is a travesty! You going down to League 2 for the first time in my life Reds!

It’s a load of bollocks.  If Yamal was so deserving he wouldn’t need the Barcelona press machine and all his team mates campaigning for him to win it. Just like the Oscars the merit of the award loses something when it’s as much to do with PR and buzz as it is quality.

The award is nonsense but I don't agree at all that Kane should have won it.

He's a great player and he had a great season but I don't think there's a reasonable argument that he had the best season of any player in football.

I think the point about the environment within which he made his key achievements - domestic success and number of goals scored - is absolutely relevant.

Bayern are miles ahead of anyone in Germany. That has to be taken into account.

The biggest and two most pressured games of Kane's season in my opinion were the World Cup QF and SF.

He was anonymous in both.

Him being the "Best Player In The World" is ridiculous.

We probably will change the whole team for the game away on Tuesday at Fleetwood Town, go get a positive result and then I'm really looking forward to rocking up to Anfield next Sunday and putting the final nail in any hope they have of taking our title away from us this season.

Sounds like you were looking forward to Arsenal getting to play at Highbury for the first time in over two decades.

Pity they didn't turn up.

Yeah that's sub optimal. Fair play to Fleetwood though.

On the plus side it'll ease some potential fixture congestion. Silver linings.
