Your dream job

Probably had this before but whatever. I do enjoy my job most of the time, but like many others dream of the idyllic life.

Spin off from the work chat, if money were no object, what would be your dream job?

I've said before but I'd love to have my own coffee van/shop hip hop themed called Cafe La Soul. I'd sell things like a slow drip (Kendrip Lamar), lemon zest cake (A Slice Called Vest), a Cappuccino XL and a million other little puns I've got stored in my brain. Brew Tang! Brew Tang!

I'd have a small book and vinyl section as well, which would be curated by me, and small sets from DJs (vinyl only please) and in stores. 

It might be niche, and make no profit, but that's sort of the point of it being a dream job. 

Failing this, I'd love to run my own record label or venue, or set up a charity supporting addicts into employment, with REAL support, not just "heres how to write a CV"

I run a football club as a volunteer. I dedicate every spare minute to it outside of my actual job and marriage and am currently embarking on the biggest project in the club's history. I'd absolutely love to do it as my proper job - both for me and for what it would give the club. I have similar sentiments to those @LaGoosh expressed in the Work thread though. I get paid well enough to do my boring day job. The money I could justify/raise to pay me to be a proper employee of the club just wouldn't nearly suffice. It's a bit of a pipe dream until I'm old enough to retire!

I've often wanted to be a writer - whether that's a script writer for films or an author for books. Not sure I really have the attention span for it though.

I'd love to be a teacher as I think they're massively important in shaping someone's life but I don't have the confidence or the patience for everything they go through for the amount of money they get.

More recently I've been leaning towards anything mental health related - therapist/counselling etc, but I think to actually get qualified would take a long time and it's probably too late for me to be taking that route. So doing things like mental health first aid and Samaritans on the side is scratching that itch.

I definitely wish I'd had the faith in myself to pursue things earlier on in life and at least tried certain things but I guess that's similar to a lot of people - not knowing what you want to do too early on in your life and just taking whatever and ending up doing that because it pays the bills.

Previously to act, now Im way more in to directing. But Ive dropped down to an amateur level with my arts involvement due to my previous relationship issues. My current wife would back me to hive it a go, but at this stage of my life Im happy having a decent paycheck and sociable hours!

Nah, counselling is full of people who took an age and odd turns to realise that's what they wanted to do. 

I'm about halfway through my degree in my mid thirties, have just started placement, and it makes me feel like an absolute teenager. As a vocation it feeds on people who have a wealth of life experience behind them and - honestly - who have got off a lot of the rides, are in the process of warming to their own company and have decided it's a sound way to find a thread in whatever you want to call the world we've all wound up in. 

Not to get all evangelical but yeah. If a vocation's calling, don't be put off solely by the numbers. Even if it is your gimmick name! 

Dream job if I wasn't doing that? Honestly, just making ends meet touring music. It's decidedly in the realm of fantasy because - despite getting into buying synths over lockdown and enjoying tinkering with sounds - I don't have the attention span and discipline to put together full tracks on the regular, let alone the odious task of trying to spotlight them. Even to my own small friend group. Nor do I want to cultivate those talents now to go along with what's basically just popping myself by re-creating my favourite kind of sounds. 

If I had all those inroads developed though? I reckon I'd genuinely be happy as shit zooming about different towns and cities making ends meet, doing the hotel thing, setting up on a crate in various different dives etc and just chatting to different people from different places all night about tunes afterwards.

As much as I absolutely hate the term, probably the closest thing to my dream job is "Content Creator". To be paid for the grab-bag of stuff I do outside of work - writing, podcasting, bits and bobs in wrestling. Because at the moment, trying to balance all the creative stuff with a full-time job either means feeling like I'm doing two jobs at once, or that one suffers for too much focus on the other. So short of a book or project getting successful enough to start making quit-the-job money, I just have to hope for Universal Basic Income.

Beyond all of that, I'd like to work in conservation - I did, briefly, in the accounts department, but to have a bit more involvement in the actual business of conservation work or fundraising would be nice.

I've just got my fit to practice, and am getting ready to start placement. Need to find supervision and get my 4 way contract sorted out. 

I loved my old job in the warehouse in Manchester when I worked with @air_raid, It was challenging, but in a good way. I acquired skills I never thought I'd acquire, including a forklift truck licence, and a licence to drive/operate a MEWP (Mobile Elevated Work Platform). I took it upon myself to try and make everybody else around me's job as easy as possible by making sure there was the right amount of stock in the bays, printing and organising invoices so they were easy to pick, etc. I'd get into work, check with my shift leader and line manager what needed doing, and just crack on with it. If I'd been able to afford to move back to Manchester after I left my ex I'd like to think I'd still be there. I don't regret wanting to go on this counselling journey now, though.

I've written a few children's picture books. I self published two of them however illustration is pricey especially to have them done by people who could bring what I was envisioning in my head, to life on a page.

I used AI to illustrate a third which was written solely as a birthday present for my daughter.

I've written several more and would have loved to have made that my full time job however as with seemingly any form of entertainment industry nowaways, it's near impossible to break into without pre existing wealthy and/or well connected relatives.

Outwith that, I always really loved the idea of being a support worker for adults with learning difficulties. 

I know for sure that I'm hugely over simplifying a complex and challenging role but I've always thought I would get a lot of fulfillment from helping with days out, organising and taking part in sports, day to day tasks like shopping etc.

I would love to have a business based around running. 
 

My dream has always been to qualify as a physio and then train as a run coach as well. Alongside that I would do shoe reviews and product test. 
 

I currently work in a school and i’m on my way to becoming a qualified teacher which I love so i’m lucky in that regard.
