My daughter loves 'playing' Farmers Dynasty on our PS4. Near enough every time we switch it on, which is maybe once a month or so, theres some sort of update to be done or download to complete before you can play it. Baked beans inside mashed potato, with breadcrumbs on the outside. Amazing. I dont remember what the last one was called, but it was a sausage roll that has beans instead of meat. That aside, the feeling of summer as a kid. That level of freedom and lack of stress about the world. I assume its the same feeling that the UKIP/EDL supporters are desperate to recapture, but in a horrific way. Quote

I've not got kids, and I'm not having any so no worries there. It may sound a bit morbid for a Sunday but it's genuinely how I feel about it. I miss knowing that if I went to the pub at the weekend I would probably know half of the people there, that I could rely on my mates being available to grab a drink, and that you'd probably pick up the odd straggler passing through, compared to now where even with friends who live just up the road we need to book a drink at the local a week in advance and mark it on the calendar. I miss a lot of the excitement I used to have around new media. I'd scour the new releases at HMV every week, constantly be chatting about music and films with mates, and it was exciting and really felt like it meant something. I know in many ways that's just being young, and it's a hair's breadth away from talking about gatefold sleeves and surface noise, but I wish music or films or anything could energise me quite as much again. I was talking to my brother the other day about the first computer games we played, and various bits of our gaming history. There's so much I miss there that's really just being a kid and not knowing anything, but first discovering games at the tail end of the lifespan of a lot of British home computers as well as the start of the Nintendo/Sega console wars, it felt like every time you went round to a friend's place for the first time they would have not only completely different games to you, but that everyone had an entirely different kind of computer, it just felt like an infinite world out there. Then buying games and reading all the text on the box, reading the manual, trying to take in as much information as you could about it before you got to play it. Bliss. Quote

The days of just deciding to go and dropping £20 on some tickets are long gone. We watch a lot of live music though. There's a great scene in Hull, couple of festivals every summer, great pubs that have live music all year and a former fruit market that's now a trendy street of bars and restaurants that has some great venues. The indoor market in town also hosts live music on a Thursday night for most of the year and all the street food stalls and bars stay open late. Lots of it is free or low cost. "Free" not quite being true by the time you've bought food and drink for 4 people but that's a choice! Don’t get me wrong, I still love football in general but year-on-year I detest the Premier League product more and more. As a kid in the mid 90’s I’d watch pretty much every single game, no matter who was playing. I could tell you all there is to know about all the players etc. Yet nowadays, when I can access pretty much anything I want to, I genuinely couldn’t care less. Saturday lunchtime I couldn’t even be bothered watching Spurs v Man United and watched Olympic Curling instead. Man City v Liverpool yesterday? Nah! I detest how sanitised the product is, pristine pitches and players treated with kid gloves. Swanning around on £200k a week while fans scrimp and go without to buy £100 replica kits and £60 tickets. Nowadays I get most of my joy from watching Welsh Premier games either on TV or in person. Like the English non-league, clubs that actually appreciate the support and need the £10 on the gate and the pint you buy in the clubhouse. I get my ‘top level’ fix from international football, travelling away with Wales and watching international tournaments, which I love. But while the Premier League leaves me cold nowadays, I do miss those Super Sundays and that big game feel at times. Edited February 10 by garynysmon Quote
Members SuperBacon Posted February 9 Members Posted February 9 Yeah I feel the same @garynysmon The only reason we go to Spurs is my 12yo likes it, if she turned around and said she didn't want to go anymore, I'd sack it off altogether. Don't get me wrong, we only go a handful of times a year and I love it only because its "our thing" and love spending the time with her, but I enjoy everything about the day except the actual game. The highlight is always eating before the game at our favourite cafe on the High Road, and then at Waterloo we go in to Marks and get an absolute load of shit for the train home, things I could do without having to fork out for the most expensive tickets in Europe!
