Austin not taking his eyes off Bret as he celebrates in the ring is such a great touch. You really felt he was obsessed with Bret, and I know they sort of hammer that home throughout the feud, but it feels so real. I had to rack my brains back to that time as I was (and still am) such a Bret guy, but I also absolutely loved Austin as well, so I couldn't remember who I really wanted to win each time. Either of them I guess. I do remember no matter how much I loved Bret, popping big time for the battering he gives Bret the night after Revenge of The Taker, in the ring and in the ambulance. Just tremendous shit all round. WATCH HIS KNEE YOU IDIOT! Quote
The King of Old School Posted November 15, 2025 Posted November 15, 2025 Seen they are doing a traditional 5 on 5 Survivor Series match, the night before Survivor Series, on Smackdown. Quote

Dai Posted November 15, 2025 Posted November 15, 2025 (edited) Everything about that Bret/Austin match is perfect, apart from Brets gear. Austin, Bret, MSG, iconic MSG entrance way, perfect match, JR being class, Fink, Tim White, talking about the WWF hotline, the finish, the post match. This will always be what wrestling is to me I think. Edited November 15, 2025 by Dai Quote
Chico Torres Posted November 16, 2025 Posted November 16, 2025 Since this is the 1996 Survivor Series discussion thread, I watched the Bret/Austin match for the first time ever in full and without being ruined by Sky and what a great match. It doesn’t feel old but at the same time it’s a style of wrestling that is long and will never come back. There is such a generic template for “great match” now which I hate and a derivative of 90s Japanese wrestling that then became American Indy wrestling in the 2000s when most wrestlers were tape trading geeks and all matches became generic big finishers and kick outs and reversals and shocked faces and athleticism rather than story telling. And shit. It’s also a reminder that after being Stunning Steve and before he became full on Stone Cold that we know, Austin has the interesting period before he got his neck ruined where he was this great hard nosed, nasty wrestling heel. Then the attitude era came along and this kind of wrestling disappeared. Anyway everything about this was great, even a reminder of what JRs commentary was like before he became the bah gawd parody later. I should probably watch the Mankind Undertaker match next which I remember being about 3 mins long in the Sky version. Quote
jm29195 Posted November 18, 2025 Posted November 18, 2025 (edited) Am I missing something but what are they doing with Rey for this PPV? If he's healthy and the venue is San Diego, I would have thought they would give him something to do. He's even front and centre on the poster! Edited November 18, 2025 by jm29195 Quote
Paid Members Supremo Posted November 18, 2025 Paid Members Posted November 18, 2025 This week’s Observer reported Rey Mysterio will be backstage watching Survivor Series 1996, like everyone else. Quote
Chico Torres Posted November 19, 2025 Posted November 19, 2025 He’s only 10 years younger than the worlds uncoolest manager Grandad Jose Lothario was at the now-legendary 1996 event. Genuinely thought the old cunt had croaked it when Sid hit him with the camera and gave him a heart attack. I’m sure “Chawn” was glad to see the back of him. Quote

I personally think they should have had the Dom/Cena rematch on Raw this week with Dom winning thanks to interference from The Vision after Cena had turned them down for SS earlier in the night. Then they could have had Rey vs Dom for both the IC and AAA belts here and Cena in the War Games match. Fuck big Jim out of there. Imagine as said above Rey will be Cena's corner to counter The Judgement Day in Dom's. Quote

Paid Members Supremo Posted November 28, 2025 Paid Members Posted November 28, 2025 (edited) Reports coming out that they’re going to make the Wrestlemania direction very obvious during the Survivor Series main event. And now videos of this leaking? Don’t give me hope! Spoiler Obviously planing to do a repeat of Survivor Series 2023, only it’s Stone Cold coming out at the end rather than Punk, to challenge Punk for Wrestlemania. We should have seen the clues. The Showcase of the Immortals! Bald vs. Bouffant! Ticket sales tell an interesting story. 2023: 13K 2024: 16K 2025: 40K+ Nikki Bella a confirmed draw. Edited November 28, 2025 by Supremo Quote

I’m reminded of WWF in 1996, when everything was a bit shit, and they recognised the most interesting thing they had was the magazine, so they brought Vince Russo into the creative team. Half a dozen graphic designers in both AEW and WWE suddenly getting a promotion, whether they want it or not. ESPN have released some new posters! 😄 Quote
