WWE Survivor Series will be taking place at Petco Park (a baseball stadium) on Saturday, November 29th. Currently over 32,000 44,000 tickets have been sold!

I know people made some bold Darby predictions about Blood and Guts so I'm going to do the same here.

I had a great idea about Iyo Sky jumping off the top in a trash can or something maybe? Not sure she'd ever do that but we'll see.

When did they start doing PPVs on a Saturday? It’s better and I always wondered why they didn’t do it years ago. Even weirder to think they used to do PPVs on random weeknights like a Wednesday or something. I always used to wish they were on Saturdays when I was a kid. Was proper shite going to bed on Sunday knowing you had to get up early for school when Royal Rumble was gonna be starting in a few hours.

What was worse for me was the stress of whether the tape I had set up to record overnight had worked, and trying to avoid getting the result spoiled by someone at school who had stayed up late because they had much less strict parents than me. Or some dickhead pretending they knew what happened and trying to convince me of some outlandish bullshit that happened. 

Also, Sunday was when my Dad went to the pub, so I would also have to sometimes contend with him potentially forgetting the tape was set and changing the channel when he got home. Survivor Series 1996 being interrupted by Topless Darts on Live TV the nest day was a particularly memorable moment.

I think they started doing them more regularly early into the Nick Khan/Triple H era. 

The historic reason - which was probably outdated in a mixed consumption/format era for a few years before they eventually did change it - is that Saturday's typically the weakest night for TV in the United States, and what does run on the day tends to be quite a lot of sports anyway, so WWE used to try and avoid that and run on Sundays when everyone's home for the evening before work the next day and things are a bit quieter.

I remember taping Survivor Series 96, which was in that brief period where they weren’t giving us the PPVs live and they were just shown on delay midweek. Went to bed, went to school the next day, successfully avoided spoilers all day because by late 96 nobody at my school was admitting to watching wrestling anymore. Got home, immediately stuck the tape in and it was riddled with ad breaks. Worst of which was during Bret vs Austin, the match I was most looking forward to, where Sky decided to butcher the match and cut out all the outside the ring violence by going to ad breaks instead.

I’d have been happier watching the Topless Darts myself.

Ah that's interesting, maybe it wasn't Survivor Series 1996 and I'm conflating two memories in which case. I definitely remember one event I'd taped being interrupted by Topless Darts, and also some weird war movie on Bravo, also featuring a topless German soldier lady. It left quite the impression, although at the time I seem to remember just being annoyed at missing the wrestling.

It still might’ve been if your Dad went for a midweek pint or several maybe. Unless I’ve got it wrong and Survivor Series was on live. Although I’m pretty sure after SummerSlam 96 we never got PPVs live over here until WrestleMania 13. Which sounds worse than it is until you remember it’s just two PPVs because we never got In Your House at all back then.

I’m pretty sure I never had any results spoilt for me at school but my mate for some bizarre reason lied to me saying Rock had come out to Stop The Rock by Apollo 440 at Over The Edge ‘99, followed by ‘oh and Owen Hart died’

I remember they cut the Undertaker/Mankind match down so much it was hardly even worth showing. Can’t have been more than 5 minutes on the broadcast when in actuality it went close to 15. I didn’t see it in its entirety until the Network launched.

As for this year, between this and Blood & Guts you’d have to be some kind of masochist to sit through 4 War Games matches in the space of 17 days

It’ll probably be shit because the majority of them are shit, but for nostalgia I want them to do the MFTs vs. The Wyatt Family as a Traditional Survivor Series Elimination match.

Jury’s out on whether Tanga Loa would be able to understand the rules, though. He’d fine some way to screw it up.

This thread has made me realize that I have never seen the full Bret vs Austin 96 match since I also taped it off Sky with the ad breaks. But fuck it, I still got to experience the full glory of Sid fist-bumping his way to glory in front of his people.

Anyway, bring back the WILD CARD match. And The Visionaries.

Now now, I'm sure he could understand the rules to some degree. He must have got his cycling proficiency so you'd imagine he's not completely useless
