25/26 Football thread DEAD, USE A NEW ONE

As a United fan i hope they don’t fuck around too much and try to play clever football playing from the back. Just hoof it forward, win loose balls, keep it moving quickly and (hopefully) ultimately get it to Sesko .

 

With all that said, i’d be happy with a dull 0-0.

It’ll be interesting to see what lasts longer. That United fans Afro or Slot’s Liverpool tenure. I know we’ve signed a lot of players and there’s a bit of square pegs in round holes about some of our players but that’s really not the issue here. The issue is that Slot is aiming for an outdated Pep 2012 machine whilst the game is moving towards an Arteta Allardyce on steroids model. Getting exposed by and bemoaning long ball football all season then conceding early to a fucking long throw at Brentford is crazy bad and unfortunately predictable.

Im not a knee jerk #SlotOuter but two things have me wobbling. Firstly someone said Slot has the distinct whiff of Brendan Rodgers in his second season about him and I can’t shake it off and secondly Klopp gave me a week long theoretical boner when he said that he would in theory manage us again and now the thought of these players plus a bit of tinkering in a Klopp geggenpress is overruling any common sense and patience I have.

Football should just follow its natural direction. You should be given 20 corners and 20 throws each a game and see who scores the most from them. Why fight it?

So the last four Celtic managers have been Neil Lennon (2nd spell), Postecoglou, Rodgers (2nd spell) and O’Neill (2nd spell) - which could now be followed by Postecoglou (2nd spell)?

Have they only got one page in the address book at Parkhead?

Nope, it's just the job has a perceived ceiling so it's somewhere for managers to step up from or back too. It's a step down for top level managers despite the massive, ardent fan base and the lure of Champions League football.

Round two with Ol Brenda won us the league last year as well. It'd be nice to see a little ambition rather than going sideways every year. Neither of them could cut it at Premier League level in England, let's actually try and build a club culture again.

Rodgers won trophies at Premier League level and came within a slip of winning the thing. Ange just won a European trophy. Celtic is a backwards step for both of them.

Think that's incredibly harsh on Rodgers at least 

Even if you classified his tenure at Liverpool as a total failure which id say is 50/50 considering how close he came to delivering them the title for the first time in 20+ years when it wasn't like he inherited a great side when he took over

Taking Leicester to back to back 5th place finishes was a pretty good achievement and really they should have made the Champions League in at least one of those seasons when they totally collapsed at the end when looking almost certainly like qualifying with just a few games left.

He also took them to 9th when he took over mid season and followed up the 2 5ths with an 8th place finish

Won the Fa Cup with them as well as getting to a QF, reached the league cup SF and QF and took them to a European SF in the Conference League

His time at Leicester was a massive success I'd say, ok ultimately it ended badly but the club was starting to hit the buffers financially impacting things.
