Merzbow Posted April 3, 2025 Posted April 3, 2025 I do wonder how many parents are going to be buying normal SD cards for their kids new Nintendo.. I mean there's not going to be any Wii U level marketing blunders but I hope they push the importance of the Express cards a little harder. Also just realized, is this the first ever numbered Nintendo console? Quote

Some parents don’t have a clue regardless of how obvious it’s made. We used to have people buy games for the wrong console, controllers for the wrong console, and sometimes have to explain basic things like why a disc won’t work in their kids digital console. I believe it’s the first numbered console yeah. I think if the Wii U hadn’t confused the casuals we’d maybe be looking at the Super Switch or Switch Advance but they won’t risk making that mistake again. Quote

Paid Members FLips Posted April 3, 2025 Paid Members Posted April 3, 2025 They’re starting to release games that you can upgrade for free. It seems to follow a pattern of games getting solely performance and graphical updates being free, and games with extra content and features being paid. You can also request an invite to preorder on Amazon now which I imagine is less strict than Nintendo’s preorder policy too. Even I didn’t get one from Nintendo! Quote
Paid Members Jesse Posted April 3, 2025 Paid Members Posted April 3, 2025 I won't be getting one on launch, and like all other Nintendo things I don't have the time/money to play I'm certain I'll regret that the second I see others enjoying it. I love the Hyrule Warriors games, so that, Mario Kart doing Burnout Paradise, and FromSoft doing a console exclusive is probably going to be enough to crack my resolve within 6 months. Quote

The Switch had the same ones we sold in store and nobody bought them because you can get generic ones for much cheaper and that will be the case here. By the looks of it the joycon adapter this time comes with a charge port too, bringing it even closer to a proper controller. I’m hoping with the new design and bigger buttons on the joycons it makes it a more comfortable way to play with my fat sausage fingers. Going to be honest, I had a Nintendo branded SD card. I went to buy a Sandisk one on Amazon and the nintendo one was cheaper so I got that. I know someone who bought them and kept them in the packet as part of a collection, I figured that's what they are really for. I wouldn't be surprised if parents bought them knowing they would work in the console too. While I understand people's frustration at needing an SD express which is about £40 for 128gb, to run properly it's probably needed. I don't know how long 256gb will last, probably not that long really. Quote

I’m awaiting an invite from Amazon, but contemplating going through Argos instead. Argos however take payment straight away. Quote

I’d been hoping to get an invite from Amazon, but it hadn’t yet come through. I think Argos is tied to local stores, as it asks for your postcode to check availability; and sure enough, all was good in my area. Quote
Ironic Indie Lad Posted April 3, 2025 Posted April 3, 2025 Are Argos just taking money and hoping they have enough or what? Quote

I’ve never had an issue pre-ordering a console from Argos. It’s where I got my PS5, Switch 1, Series S and 3DS from, and they all arrived on time with no problem whatsoever. What I think happens - and I may be wrong - is that rather than send them out from a central hub, the availability is tied in to availability at your local Argos store, and that’s also who will be delivering it. That makes it less likely that scalpers can abuse the system. The reason I think that’s the system is because you enter your postcode, and then they then check availability based on that. But yeah, I’ve found them to be a safe bet for pre-orders. Quote
Paid Members Jazzy G Posted April 8, 2025 Paid Members Posted April 8, 2025 Vicky and I are thinking of saving up and buying one between us, then hooking it up to the projector in her living room. Also I'll finally get to play Street Fighter 6. We each have enough of a games backlog that we probably wouldn't need many games at launch, and can probably save some money by shifting to the family Switch Online subscription. Quote
Paid Members Hannibal Scorch Posted April 8, 2025 Paid Members Posted April 8, 2025 Switch 2 Pre-orders just went live on Amazon for anyone that wants one. I got the Mario Kart bundle considering the cost of the game on it's own, it was a no brainer. Deliver on the 7th June though, not release day. Quote

Scalpers must have caught on real quick. My mate sent me a screenshot last night that Ebay is already full of £500-600 resellers for just the console. I’ve went with my brain and not my heart on this one and I’m going to wait until maybe Christmas time or whenever they’re freely available. I’ve got a fat back catalogue to get through and don’t want to stress out trying to get one. I worked at GAME during the PS5/Xbox Series launch and going through that again might give me PTSD so just going to put money aside and then get it with Prime 4, Mario Kart and Donkey Kong to give me a few bits to play. At least most companies took steps to mitigate this as much as possible, so here’s hoping it doesn’t pay off for them. 32 minutes ago, FLips said: I worked at GAME during the PS5/Xbox Series launch and going through that again might give me PTSD so just going to put money aside and then get it with Prime 4, Mario Kart and Donkey Kong to give me a few bits to play. I’ve really struggled to gel with the 3D Metroid games, which is a rarity with me when it comes to Nintendo titles. I really hope that changes for me with Prime 4, as I’ve really started to appreciate the 2D Metroid games. Quote
