Its perhaps not as bad now as in the past but the total loss of colour and vibrancy in wrestling. Too often you've got two competitors wearing the same dark colour or outfits that are mostly black. That can piss right off give me colour, neon greens, pinks I want the ring in a battle royal to look like an absolute acid trip. 

Generic rock music or rap beats doesn't help. I don't even want real songs these days. Custom songs singing about the Wrestlers as they gestate to the ring is what's needed. I can't understand how WWE have so much money but can't afford a couple of talented music producers to make funky themes. 

My biggest one of all is the way major wrestling promotions have to present themselves. LED screens everywhere dominating everything in typical arena layouts. Day in day out. It all looks the same. I think one of the reasons I fell out of love with AEW was their adoption of loads of LED screens. I will admit both of the big 2 have made effort to differ how they look recently with new canvases from WWE and AEW using smaller venues but it's just not drastic enough to satisfy this old man. What's wrong with a scaffold frame to the side or a wacky set for a themed show with surf boards, wagon wheels etc. I figure this is just what the TV companies want as it's not like those old WCW sets look bad on modern TVs

Agreed, I hate the LEDs.

Understand that they have all this modern technology, but all these fucking screens everywhere is the ultimate example of, "Just because you can doesn't mean that you should." One on the stage is fine, one up high so the nosebleeds can see what's happening, otherwise they can fuck off.

I simply hate the trope where the wrestlers, instead of looking at the person they just clobbered or the crowd before turning around normally to face the other guy for the DRAMATIC STAREDOWN, have to stare straight ahead, seemingly into space, because they know the camera might be on them, so the crowd can make anticipation noises before they finally look at each other. Somehow, impossibly, aware of who is on the other side of the ring. It’s a piece of shit you never saw Hogan and Warrior or Rock and Austin have to do, and practically every giant name in the Rumble did it on Saturday. It’s one of the worst examples of playing up to “make it dramatic” as opposed to “make it look real.” And it happens so often that it’s become one of those “part of the formula” situations that takes me straight out of any chance of suspending my disbelief.

On the name-moving front, I absolutely despise the laziness of so many people's signature moves just being called [Name] Bomb, [Name] Driver or [Name] Lock, where those names are utterly meaningless. (Exemption if you're the actual innovator of the move, of course). 

If it creates a name that's referential to something else that's all good, and actually kind of creative. Orange Punch, Masterlock etc. 

If it's alliterative it's passable (although I think the Batista Bomb is to blame for the sheer volume of that style of name now). I don't like Cody Cutter, but it's better because of alliteration. 

But as soon as Penta hit what used to be called Made in Japan for his finish on his Raw debut, you knew straight away Cole was gonna blurt out "There's the Penta Driver!". Dull. Made in Japan is a silly name anyway TBH, and even if you can't just port the name Fear Factor to that move for legal reasons, make something new up using "fear". Fear of the Dark, there you go.

Anyone who moans at the start of a story. Mainly aimed at AEW, but happens in all promotions to a point. As soon as something happens it’s denounced as being shit because you don’t understand why it’s happening. Case in point, Timeless Toni Storm. When she started the character a good friend of mine and long time wrestling fan, said it was absolutely awful. I said we should let it play out, as there’s obviously something they’re building too and within a few weeks he was completely on board with it.

Also anyone who defends Vince because of all the good he brought to the industry as a way to downplay his obviously disgusting behaviour.

People who complain about advertising in wrestling. I'm guessing they've never seen the UFC, or any professional boxing match, or any professional sport in general. In a lot of motor sport teams are known by their sponsor, in boxing some of the Thai lads change their names to brands to advertise, one of my favourite fights is Manny Pacquiao v Chokchai 3-K Battery. Advertising is part of the world, that its taken this long to fully infiltrate wrestling is a miracle.

I get what you're saying but also wrestling isn't actually a sport so I don't think it should be judged on the same criteria and metrics.

Wrestling is 100% presented as a sport. Anyone denying that is delusional. Joe Tessitore is a sports commentator. Pat McAfee is a sportsman turned sports pundit. Jackie Redmond was an NHL sports journalist, Tony Sciavone was a basketball, baseball, and football commentator. Lee Fitting was brought in as a producer because of the work he has done on college football and the NFL. Like I said WWE could not be presented more as a sport. Any thought that you don't judge its presentation as a sports broadcast is beneath you Gooshy.

Here’s an incredibly trivial and anal one that I expect annoys me, and only me.

But I need to emphasise something first - this genuinely is the thing that annoys me most in wrestling today. When it happens, I actually feel pissed off and I am annoyed even writing about it.

It’s the start of Adam Copeland’s theme song - when Beth Phoenix says ‘you think you know him’ instead of the ‘you think you know me’ we’re all used to. 

Now, I understand that this is probably for copyright reasons, but to me? It makes his theme song - which is exactly the same as it was in WWE - feel like a knock-off. Just ditch the bit of speech at the start, then the issue I have with it is gone.
