This is a thread to highlight good, terrible, funny or interesting music videos. A sometimes overlooked and sometimes overrated artform. Often pithy, quirky and sometimes genuinely moving, though not as much as directors would like.

I'm going to start of with At Your Funeral by Saves the Day. Now the conceit of the video is a room in a house and a family existing within it over their lifetime and we see it playout over the song until death, upon which a new family moves in. Very interesting 🥱. That's not why I'm posting it though. Look at this cunts mouth and jaw! It changes shape and dimensions constantly throughout, completely distracting you from the Very Poignant Themes. Baffling that you'd look at him and think "yes, let's put him in front of the camera for the entire song". He looks like bad AI.

The skirting board is fucked up in that room as well.

Over to you.

The Roots perfectly skewed 90s rap videos in this

And more rap as I love the fact that OGC decided that dressing like old school fishermen was relevant.

Bring that look back.

Edit: correct video with the original subtitles.

This absolutely blew my mind the first time I saw it many years ago. Made a huge impression and was immediately the first thing I thought of with this thread.

The time and effort that went in to every one of the hundreds of frames is just nuts

Solstafir have done some amazing ones, this probably being my favourite. Normally music videos are pretty generic - this one is anything but. Cinematic in scale, the music, the Icelandic landscapes and the imagery at the end combine to make one hell of a music video.

They're the perfect pop cultural medium for my attention span.

I love videos that at least try and go somewhere - even if it ends up in a load of pseudo-meaning and half-baked symbology - and at their best come off as perfect aesthetic matches for the song and - if they're doing it ridiculously well - are little insights into the mood in the camp at the time.

This is always the first one to jump to mind, meeting the above criteria:

There's just so much going on in it. It's a painting that finishes off the song.

Could have went for more or less any Bjork video too.

I used to love those Director Series DVD’s of the top music video directors. Full of good songs with great videos. Michel Gondry has done loads of good ones, but I love these two probably the most

Just boggle the mind

They seem to be a bit of a dying art these days. I guess with there being less money in the music industry, the budgets for thing like music videos are getting smaller and they're less important nowadays Thankfully there are still some people who keep the art alive. Childish Gambino pulled one out of the bag last year. But then again, I don't expect much less from Donald Glover.

Kojey Radical always produces really great and interesting videos. Like short movies.

When it comes to shit music videos, I have a undeniable hatred for the 'Times Like These' video by Foo Fighters.

A) because it's a shit video for a shit song but mainly...

B) I was a big fan of them around this time. They always produced really good videos throughout their career and were well known for it, so the video for this new single was much anticipated.

Then they release this piece of shit which seemly had little to no effort put in. It was so disappointing. Bring back Michel Gondry or that bloke from The Lemonheads to direct again, please.

The other day I randomly starting thinking about this video and almost started getting emotional about it. When I was a teenager, this used to freak me out and make me really sad, but I could never take my eyes or ears off it.

I know it's an easy one to pick. But I'm sat there at midnight on a Wednesday night back when I was at college ready for Alternative Nation to come on MTV - and this is the first video. And pretty much every one of Chris Cunningham's videos could land in this thread, and deservedly so.

Slash forgets the rings, theb just wanders off before the wedding is over because he has to play a solo outside a different church:

Also a notable video because they spent a fuckton making it.

Been out on the piss, with all the general stupidity that we got up to, and piled back to a mate's house to wind down. Turn on The Box just as this bastard came on for the first time, plunging the house into uncomfortable silence.

Think we can all agree You Could Be Mine was a better video though, as it has the Terminator in it.
