He got a lot of sympy early on in 1PW after AJ Styles dropped him on his head doing the Styles Clash as a receipt for getting stiffed earlier in the match.

LOL, no. As ever, it was an accident caused by recipient tucking their head.

I always read Sterling James Keenan in results and assumed he was some posh twat or something so when I actually saw him for the first time I was very confused.

I was the same and I just recently learnt that Maynard James Keenan is the vocalist from Tool, so I'm assuming that's where he took it from.

That’s what happened obviously, it’s plain to see, but I can clearly recall the fallout/general consensus at the time from the crowd being that AJ gave a receipt. Whether he did or not (he didn’t), that’s what got Graves over with that crowd

I was in that crowd and that's not how I remember it.

Brilliant to see Meltzer reported it as a work, then wasn’t sure, and is now suggesting the whole thing is a shoot and Graves might be trying to get himself fired. Amazing work.

“We’re getting reports of a potential worked shoot in NXT tonight, let’s go to the number one pro-wrestling journalist for some answers…Dave?”

I remember being a little surprised that he was being pushed in 1PW, as I don't think he had much profile outside the promotion. That was the first time I'd ever even heard of him, and whilst I wasn't a full-on smark, I was able to keep up to date with who was who on the indies via people on here, so it seemed like he'd come out of nowhere. Given that 1PW were mainly booking ex-WWE stars, TNA guys, and indie darlings at the time, it stood out a bit.

Does Graves have mates in AEW? Is he a PWG alumnus?

Never in PWG. A few ROH matches (all losses) where his only notable opponents were Claudio and a tag match against The Briscoes on a show main evented by Kenta vs Danielson vs Samoa Joe. He didn’t stand out.

I hope he turns up somewhere where no one can watch him. Like OVW. Thats still going.

Wouldn't matter if it's not hot shit.

I went to all of the first 7 1PW shows (8 if you include the Morishima/Yone hangover show on the lunchtime of KYE) and the only reasons SJK seemed over from where I was sat was that (a) people assumed upon sight that Abyss was going to beat someone up (usually Spud) and (b) the strong desire to see Spud get revenge on Keenan.

I have half a memory that (as well as a cheap hire) he came upon a strong recommendation from someone close to Gauntley. Wouldn't surprise me if it was Joe Dombrowski but - full disclosure - I'm basing that on on them both being Pennsylvania natives and working primarily in that area at the time. But then, given the amount of indies running Viking/Alhambra at the time, practically everyone not contracted to WWE or TNA was working in PA at the time....

Me as well raiders and that's how I remember it. ChirpyChirpySheepCreep seemed to be suggesting AJ gave that Styles Clash to him as a receipt from something earlier in the match, and I don't remember that at all.
