I've upvoted that but I'm secretly taking issue at the idea of "finishing that story for good". It should never be finished, I want to tune into AEW a decade from now and see those two hating each other, perfect career rivals.

At this point, I've got every finger and toe crossed Swerve wins again at Dynasty and he gets another title run. Have him face Hangman at All In Texas to finish that story for good then have him drop the strap to Ospreay at the London show (if that's even still happening?).

I think the London show is only a Collision taping, I doubt they'd drop the title on Collision.

To be fair that Killshot/Dante Fox Hell of War match was pretty great.

I may be misremembering, but didn’t Ospreay say he wanted to face the champion at All In?

I can’t really put my finger on why, but I don’t feel like it’s the right time for Ospreay to win the belt. Maybe it’s the nature of the Moxley storyline. Though I don’t like it, it’s still created the feeling in me that the person to dethrone him should feel like ‘Mr AEW’ - someone who defines the company; and while Swerve and Hangman could certainly make that claim, I don’t think Ospreay is quite there…yet. He’s been brilliant, but I don’t think he should be the one to dethrone Moxley.

He's taking the piss out of the Grand Slam build.

Forbidden Door is still scheduled for August Bank Holiday, Venue TBA.

Swerve, Hangers and Omega are the three for me that have the most credibility to run with the world title and one of those has only just came back from serious injury and isn't technically in the picture for that belt.

I'm going to go against the grain and say that I don't mind Mox being a stupid cunt, for me it was visually impressive with the way it ended up and my biggest issue was that the match was mostly boring as hell before it. It doesn't help that I've never bought Cope as a main-eventer at any time in his career, the lad's just not for me.

I've said elsewhere that I'm more bothered by Copeland needing eleventy million dudes to put him down and still insisting on doing the Austin pass out finish against the World Champion who is  probably 10 years his junior, than I am Moxley taking the Spike bump.

The biggest crime of it though is that it's derailed the discourse from a genuinely excellent episode of TV.

Mark Davis and Billie Starks feel like ones to watch, Megan Bayne has been significantly elevated, there were anywhere from 3 to 5 genuinely good matches on the show and The Owen is feeling like a pretty big deal compared to other years.

But yeah all anyone wants to talk about is one clip that made it's way to socials.

That's ok. @LEGIT by his own admission has and never will watch a single second of AEW in his life but he still came in the thread to have a cry about it.

True I don't watch AEW, but I certainly would if some things changed. I'm watching more wrestling now than I have for about 20 years and it would be great to have alternatives to WWE. I just don't like the nature of a lot of their content.

You seem to really resent me for that, which is just weird. I didn't "have a cry." I criticised a plank of nails going into a wrestlers back, and questioned where such reckless violence will end. I'd be surprised if you disagreed with any of that.

I genuinely think there would be something they’re doing right now that you’d like - they’re doing a lot of good things right now, after a weak 2024. I don’t think Dynamite should have won best show at the UKFF Awards last year, and like you I don’t enjoy the extreme violence. However, they’re on a really good run right now and there’s far more to what they’re doing than extreme gore. I’d recommend giving it a go, and if you don’t enjoy what they’re doing, so be it. For me though, they’ve been killing it this year. The fact I’m saying that given how much I hate the Moxley stuff should hopefully tell you how good I think the rest of it has been*.

I thought that was a pretty great episode, I loved almost all of it.

I think if it wasn't for THAT moment in the Street Fight...Mox/Cope might have easily been the worst match on the show, but I think a few fans would have loved how violent it looked.

As much as I winced when I saw it and I could have done without it, I didn't actually mind it (compared to some of the online reactions). AEW has these kinds of extreme moments peppered through its history, I've come to expect them, especially if Darby or Mox are involved anywhere.

However the good - and I'm not saying I liked or even approved of the spot (I didn't) but I like to look for silver linings where I can - the spiked bat is now over. In wrestling there's history of wrestlers bringing out weapons which you just can't convincingly use because by real world logic it'll kill someone.

Agreed with the above, when Cope first showed up with Spike I thought about how naff and fake it looked.

I enjoyed that four-way, I was surprised at the outcome but I'm sure we'll get a great match either way. The way Dallas picked up Cassidy for that spike piledriver at the end looked good.

I haven't seen much of Starkz, that final stretch looked pretty brutal slamming Mone's head backwards into the turnbuckle and then almost spiking her on her head. Loved the Athena tease, I assume it's going to happen at All In.

MJF - Bringing backup next week...another new faction? Is Wardlow coming back?

I liked the FTR split tease, I can't see much point splitting them up so am expecting Cash to side with Dax and both turn heel together.

It's good they're continuing to hype up the Owen Hart tournament and Osprey wanting to headline All In this early.

I was surprised to see Bayne/Stat main event the show but they did a good job of showcasing their strengths and I thought both came out of it looking good.

Toni was excellent on commentary as expected.

Another good week for the women’s division. The highlights of the show. Two matches, including the main event, plus a Julia/Aminata vignette and a Willow run in to save the day? Might AEW finally be realising what they have?

I loved 3/4 of the four way, but… Speedball is not for me. His expressions are goofy in a bad way, he seemed to have no sense of character like Ricochet, far more than the other three he felt like he was just waiting around for his spots, and compared to OC especially he didn’t sell a thing the whole time, which when Davis particularly was smashing around was not great. I’ll give him a chance but he’s not won me over yet.

It must be one of those times of year when Tony has a little look at his roster page and before he even gets to B remembers he’s got AR Fox on the books. At least Ospreay beat him convincingly.

I looked away during the Spike stuff. Grim. Hope Swerve wins.
