Mr_Danger Posted December 15, 2024 Posted December 15, 2024 I’m a big fan of using these shows as a throwback nostalgia fest. They didn’t go OTT on this one but it had enough. The best belt and Jesse Ventura not being a blabbering nutter were particular highlights. Quote
The King of Old School Posted December 15, 2024 Posted December 15, 2024 If they don't run with Cody/Owens in a big blue cage at the next SNME then what are they even doing? Quote

I mean he must of known of the affair considering where his office is (and I know he hadn’t read the lawsuit, but I have and the top brass new there was a relationship going on), but he also voted to allow Vince back on the board (while Steph resigned) and I’m sure the fact no black wrestler has had a singles match on a PLE is just an oversight and not indicative of anything, because like he said he doesn’t see colour. Except for when he did that DX skit and then defended it years later in his DX autobiography anyway, I’m sure words from Lee will have all his receipts or whatever to keep up this fun conversation of which company has the worst head. Again, this is what happens when I watch some WWE and try and have a rational discussion about it when I didn’t think it was shit. Quote

TheScarlettChad Posted December 15, 2024 Posted December 15, 2024 I mean, you come in with loaded accustations, be prepared to be asked for proof. And yeah, that DX skit was dodgy, Hardly means he's a KKK loving racist. Should there be more black people on PLE's? Yes. Does not booking them mean he's a racist? Not really? Quote
d-d-d-dAz Posted December 15, 2024 Author Posted December 15, 2024 I'm going to avoid this descending into what it always descends into, and just say that @Hannibal Scorch you've just suggested the show could have been better served by having Carmelo Hayes on it. Fucking Carmelo Hayes. A man so short and narrow he looks like he was made in a lab to be the perfect tobogganist. Shite. Quote

I've got better things to do with my time than dig up old tweets to try and prove my point. I was just pointing out how your blatant hypocrisy on the subject was funny. Quote
Paid Members Hannibal Scorch Posted December 15, 2024 Paid Members Posted December 15, 2024 Moving away from that idiotic discourse, are we surprised by the crowd here? I don’t think KO is beating Cody and winning the belt, though I’d love to see it. But is it a smark crowd or are people starting to see the sheen come off Cody? Quote

Are we starting to turn on Cody now, Just because a Smarky New York crowd chanted for Kevin Owens? Quote
Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted December 15, 2024 Paid Members Posted December 15, 2024 Well that was a great laugh. Tight wrestling matches, all wrapped up in around 10 to 15 minutes, just how it should be. Crowd were absolutely hot for Zayn vs McIntyre, a superb little match and McIntyre rightly got the win. Started a theme throughout the night of NOBODY KICKING OUT OF FINISHERS. I prayed for this to happen. The only real disappointment of the night was Dakota Kai didn't stay at ringside with Iyo Sky but it's ok, it's alright, she's gonna win the IC title and fix all that. This match was alright and Morgan has definitely improved. Surprisingly enough though, Iyo Sky has not, as was evidenced by Morgan's nose being rearranged. Thank fuck she lost. Just the two fuck-ups this time though, Iyo, so there's hope! Somebody explain to me why Finn Balor is called FXXX on the Titantron and why he came out in a hood that, if you weren't paying attention, could be trying to spell out 'fumbler'. He was almost completely superfluous in this match, an absolutely rubbish wrestler who just got in the way of the big lads whacking each other. I don't want to see any more powerbombs on steps though, fuck's sake. Not bad though. I loved Chelsea's reaction when she won, as she should have done. She didn't start crying and drop the heel facade, she stayed with it and is altogether awesome. What a woman. What an outfit. What a finisher. What is she doing with Edge's Bitch ffs. Anyway, delighted for her. I thought Ventura was really good during the main event and I audibly cheered when he accused the ref of a slow count. That's what we wanted. Doing the post-match angle off-air was stupid though because W.atch W/restling didn't have that bit and I only found out thanks to @Supremo in this thread. Thanks man. And Kevin is even more right now. More of these! Quote
Paid Members Supremo Posted December 15, 2024 Paid Members Posted December 15, 2024 (edited) On the Winged Eagle belt, it didn’t look as good as the original, a bit darker and cheaper, but fucking hell. Even a slightly crapper replica still looks the absolute business. Just look at this beautiful image. Imagine sending it through a Time Machine to someone in 2019. Enough to make your head explode. No wonder they decided to keep using it going forward. The most beautiful, perfect belt ever created. I hope this kicks off a huge surge of people buying replicas, leaving them no choice but to keep it on TV for the long term. Rightly owned by Kevin Owens, who won it fair and square. Speaking of the Undisputed Champ, Kevin is a huge fan of Owen Hart, isn’t he? Named his son Owen. Took the, “Owens,” name in tribute. This is a must for Friday, isn’t it? Glad you said this so it's not just me bitching and all. I thought I'd try this given the KO hype and it being on YouTube but unwatchable was the word I used when I text my brother about it. I saw the opener and most of the main event but generally, I just skipped it because their ads and YouTube's ads absolutely killed it. I enjoyed all the nostalgic touches, the intro, the neon entrance, the aisle, the podium, Jesse the old logo and the legends. All things that would always have me watching those "Old School Raws". They all hit for me. If it's still up, there's a fascinating bit at 1min 50ish on the YouTube feed where they go to commercial, PIP I think, and the mics are still on. Cole prepping Pat and Jesse for when they come back on is very interesting stuff if you like how the stuff works. Shame KO didn't win. Quote
Paid Members BomberPat Posted December 16, 2024 Paid Members Posted December 16, 2024 I don't think people turned on Cody for leaving AEW, and if they did, those people are unlikely to be paying big money for tickets to a big WWE show. Particularly as the crowd were turning on Cody in AEW before he left. What's more likely is that it's WWE babyface syndrome. People get invested in the chase, and then there's not a lot to do with them as champion, and the heels are more interesting. It's not quite on the level of Cena or Reigns, as the promotion itself isn't seen as this corporate juggernaut that hates its fans, but the honeymoon period won't last forever for Cody or for Triple H's WWE. Sooner or later people are going to start getting grumpy that Cody is getting consecutive Wrestlemania main events and big long title reigns rather than whoever they decide "deserves it" this week, and people booing Cody and rooting for Owens are probably the first real signs of that. Over time, I’d say there were outside circumstances that definitely hurt with him leaving (his work outside wrestling promoting AEW is sorely missed), but I don’t hold any resentment to him and nor do any of my fellow AEW watching friends. He never really fit in AEW as others did and you could see that at the end. I definitely think him not having any meaningful feuds (until now) have hurt is post Mania run. Quote
