Poor Rusev has just lost to Sammy and Danielson again in the space of about four posts. No wonder he's pissed off.

‘The Redeemer’ Miro is one of the biggest missed opportunities in AEW, and the fact it never became more than it did sounds like it’s down to him. That initial run was absolutely glorious, and he could easily be there right now tearing up the main events and upper card as that terrifying character. 

I expected him to do more than he has in WWE, but you can’t really blame them for underutilising him this time round given that he generally attracts whatever the opposite of a reaction is.

Yeah, The Redeemer run from early to autumn 2021 was the business. It's a shame he never got a match with Hangman in his first title reign but from the sounds of it, getting him to job might have been difficult. I'm sure there was some chat at the time he was pushing for a feud with Mox once he was back but it never happened, then it was boo boo face until he fucked off.

Miro and his WWE>AEW>WWE journey has confirmed what people said at the time he was brought up from NXT. He’s not that guy. 
 

He’s got an interesting look, but he’s not super tall, his promos are mid and always pre taped. His matches are meh. I think in a promotion like AEW or WWE he will always been a mid card guy. He’s nothing special and his reactions from the crowd confirm it.

Miro was born in the wrong era. He's essentially a territory guy. You can get six good months out of him then he's done. In the territory days he would move on to the next place and do great business. But in the modern era he's just a boring guy to have on TV long term.

I don’t think that’s true at all - he was incredibly over during his initial WWE run - arguably one of the most over wrestlers on the roster. He was also very over in AEW as The Redeemer. On top of that, he’s had some excellent matches in both companies - I appreciate that in itself is subjective, but his run as TNT champion was particularly strong.

He may have got in his own way in AEW, but that doesn’t change the fact that there’s talent there. His initial Redeemer promos were very unique and different, to the point WWE tried to do the same thing on his return. It’s just not worked out for him this time around, at least not yet.

I'm not Rooster but Rusev was over, plenty over, then plenty not over (but was given shit material and Vince the sexpest got madly obsessed with him daring to be in a relationship with his partner), then over again. His AEW stuff is a seperate issue for me.

It’s the same kind of logic - the catchphrases were a fundamental part of each character, but it’s not like the crowd sat on their hands when the bell rang - they attracted huge crowd support as the matches went on, and even if someone was to believe it was the catchphrase that got each act over, it doesn’t matter - they were still over.

You can also look at his initial heel run, when he was hugely over as a bad guy, to the point he faced John Cena at Wrestlemania, and it didn’t seem like a lesser match.

This is a good summary - we probably have (based on this) different opinions of The Redeemer character, but on the whole, Rusev/Miro has been very over for sustained periods more than once. With that in mind, if he’s getting in his own way by being difficult, it’s even more stupid on his part. He could be a much bigger deal than he currently is.

People pay to watch Bryan Danielson wrestle. I don’t think anyone specifically bought a ticket to a show because Rusev was over.

I could give you a top 10 of my favourite Danielson matches. I couldn’t tell you with full confidence 10 opponents Rusev has wrestled without looking it up (and ignoring Sammy and Bryan). I couldn’t tell guess and probably do it, but do you see the difference?

But it wasn't Rusev Day that was just over and not him. He'd already been over for years (with hot and cold periods). His initial run in the Drago style character was so over and people wanted to see him toppled that JACK FUCKING SWAGGER was getting big pops for facing up too him. Yes, it's the silly foreigner thing that plays a part, but people were into him and his presentation. Other acts have failed in that role, he absolutely didn't. And no it wasn't because Lana was there either, both parts played great into that act. Just because people didn't buy a ticket to see Rusev (and really, it's the company people pay for, none of these people are Hogan drawing on his name as an example) that doesn't mean he wasn't over.

I'm absolutely done saying the word over now too. Good grief, it's overload. Fuck! There's another.

Anyway, what a great face he pulled the time he popped out that cake.
