Fantastic opener and a decent if sometimes plodding main event.

All the rest in-between was just there.

Why on earth do they have to go back to champions vs champions though. Awful announcement that the crowd hated, and the belt looks like shite.

Loved the KO turn, nice to see a bit of creativity. They didn't do it in front of an audience I reckon because everyone would have gone nuts for it. Just need Randy to do the same now. Cody is such a chump.

There are alternative angles going around that clearly show the table leg spike spot was planned. Punk basically angles it sideways before contact. Impressive camera work though because I for sure thought Punk nearly killed him.

50 something HIAC matches? I've sat through THAT many? And I doubt I can name half of them. And Ryback did one? No wonder I barely give a shit about it anymore. Or at least I didn't until those two lads absolutely proved me wrong. Right guys. Right time. Right way to use the gimmick. Imagine if they did it for all their overused ones. It'd be way better!

But yeah no one was following that match so the rest of it was just there really until the main event.

Roman/Cody barely having to do anything to get a reaction. True superstars in every sense. Aura off the charts.

They had me again. Jimmy. The hug. Tears in my eyes. Fucking beautiful. Me thinking time was over just like before the Punk return last year. And then I was smelling what the Rock was cooking and losing my shit like I didnt see him six months ago. Just an amazing entrance still.

And then he treated us to a live online promo. Never change Dwayne. What a guy.

And THEN this morning I see all the KO stuff. In the parking lot? This isn't NXT! Mad way to run an angle. Unpredictable chaos and I love it.

Punk and Drew was by far the best cell match in years. Drew landing on the steps made me scream internally. My back crumbles into dust when I step off a curb, I can’t even imagine what that felt like. The referee making him wipe the blood off annoyed me. Let it flow!

Metro Boomin. Lil Baby. Add them to the list with Jelly Roll of people I haven’t heard of. I’ve never felt more old and out of touch. Maybe for Survivor Series they can have Kate Bush, Tom Waits and a reunited Little Mix just for me. A man can dream.

Always happy to see Goldberg. I’ll take him vs Gunther any day. 

She’s obviously shit, but I think Nia Jax might be a comedic genius. The little wink when was sat on Bayley, the ‘Taker rising up spot, and this shot of her after the match. 

 

Pair her up with Chelsea Green and see if they can replicate some of the magic of The Iconics.

Finn Balor and his stupid mask and his stupid face paint can go away forever. 

HHH in the opening vignette, HHH walking backstage like a big important businessman, HHH in gorilla, HHH in ring segment. Paul Levesque era in full flow. The comically large Saudi belt makes sense, in that they already have the biggest Royal Rumble and Best In The World trophy. In the future, I’d like them to have the world’s largest wrestling ring and referee, which is just all the current referees gaffer taped together. 

I don’t want to hear Michael Cole say “saucy nuggs” ever again.

The main event was okay, but nothing was topping that opening match. Can’t wait for the pop when Sami comes back to the OG Bloodline.

The Nia sit up was hilarious, and at Summerslam when she sat on Bayley and crossed her arms like a sulky teenager. Good stuff.

I wasn’t going to pop back into WWE land until the Rumble, but everyone raving in here about the Cell match had me wanting to see it. You were all right, it was excellent! Felt like they hated each other, felt like the sort of match that Hell In A Cell should be.

Thanks for tagging me. I've just watched the match in question. If you want my thoughts, I'm 50/50 in terms of I think both wrestlers deserve the utmost respect for such a performance, yet I do think it was a bit OTT in terms of the violence. I'm from the Bret Hart school of thought where ideally a match should look as real as possible but the wrestlers should be as safe as realistically possible. Foley and Hardy entertained us in the same way and paid the price in terms of their body. Neither Drew or Punk would want to end up like that. 

I'm not going to tell you I didn't enjoy the match though, as I'm not going to lie to you. It was a great match and great accomplishment for Drew and Punk. It doesn't change the fact that I think that the best wrestling is entertaining for kids, families and adults alike, and has a level of violence that only occasionally strays over a certain line and the wrestlers aren't nearly killing themselves for our entertainment.

CM Punk vs Drew McIntyre

Absolute madness putting this on first. Everything else paled into insignificance after it although the crowd stayed alive most of the night. Aside from a couple of idiot spots that I never want to see again this was brilliantly paced and violent and felt fresh in this environment because they rarely do matches of this level of bloody mayhem. The table spot was perfectly executed. Both of them sold it all beautifully at the end. One of the best matches of the year by far. Careful with the cage door, Punk - it bounces back!

Bayley vs Nia Jax

Bayley once again failed to carry this carthorse to an acceptable match. The crowd were incredibly polite considering the sheer number of fuck-ups committed by Jax in this. It was extremely bad. The teased cash-in was rubbish and it was a terrible idea pairing Tiffany Stratton with Jax.

Damian Priest vs Finn Balor

Not bad. The Bisexual Undertaker carried Balor to his first decent match in forever. Lots of fuckery at the end, as expected, but the right result. Not sure where anyone goes after this though.

Liv Morgan vs Rhea Ripley

I just think that all the in-ring stuff they've done in this feud has conspired to make Rhea look incredibly stupid. Morgan is a really good character with Dirty Dom but she's absolutely crap in the ring. I quite like Raquel Rodriguez though, so I'm cheered by the idea of her and Rhea absolutely battering each other. The former floundered as a babyface, this might be a much better use of her. This wasn't good 

Coman vs The Bloodline

The usual overbooked Bloodline match. They need to fasttrack Jacob Fatu as soon as possible, he's fucking amazing. Jimmy returning was a nice moment considering the terrible match he went out on.

I absolutely don't give a shit about The Rock though. I stopped caring about him when he came back for the Cena feud and got shown up as a fraud week after week after week. He did well at Wrestlemania with the tag match and held up well but he just makes me cringe myself into a ball whenever he opens his gob and I'm dreading the next few months, or however long it is before he gets called away to shoot his next failed film. I've moved on. Roman is the man. Jacob's next in line. Get out of the way, Dwayne. Don't take it out on us because nobody liked Black Adam.

I’d say the last good cell match was New Day vs Usos. But then this happened last night. Fantastic stuff. Its in the top tier of all the Hell in a Cell matches they’ve ever put on. Good amount of violence, they made you believe they really hated each other. And good to see blood again in this type of match. Hell in a Cell and the lack of blood had killed the vibe for me over the years. The lack of it worked for some matches, but when the match is built around hatred and also the blow off match in a feud, it does add to it massively. 

Haven’t seen the rest of the show yet but I’m only really interested in the main event so will watch that later.

I barely remember Rollins/Edge, but I imagine it was slow because Edge and lost points  with me because Rollins.

Rollins/Cody was great, but within the context of that horrific injury and the fact that Cody kept getting up and kept going. You almost can't classify it alongside other matches.

Punk/Drew was as good a HIAC as I've seen in WWE for years (excluding whatever Cody/Rollins became - I probably preferred Punk/Drew but they were so, so different).
