WWE Bad Blood 2024 - Oct 5th

I bet everybody else on the card wished that match actually was the main event and on last because, lets face it, who the fuck would want to follow that? A proper bloody violent end to a feud. What a match man, absolutely fucking loved it.

I watched Punk/Drew. First WWE PPV match I've seen in full since Zayn/KO vs Usos.

- "Well, the WWE Universe is certainly sanguineous tonight!" Fuck off! The commentary was so awful. Either you lot can tune it out or you're Stockholm Syndrome'd into liking it because hearing these two fucking pricks reading off scripted bullshit lines written by people who can't speak human for the first 10 minutes of this was genuinely painful. I had to mute it to actually get into the match. Simply fucking dreadful endless droning. 

- I liked the match! Good violent action. Great big spots but what makes a good match great is the bits inbetween the big spots. The bits inbetween were great! Nasty, scrappy brawling, scratching, clawing and exhausted selling - that's the good shit!

- I've always liked Drew but I'd like him if he wrestled to his size more. He's a hench, Greek God, giant of a man. But he doesn't wrestle like one. 

- An unprotected head shot with a metal tool box leading to Drew getting busted open hardway and needing 12 staples - funny how when WWE do it it's apparently no issue but when AEW do it the critics, pearl clutchers and hand ringers all seem to turn up. Hope your kids didn't watch this sick crap @LEGIT!

- CM Punk's hair is so terrible right now. Looks like a City trader. Sort it out, Phil!

- if this match was to reestablish the Cell as a blood feud ender I would say they certainly accomplished that.

OK, so you and I feel differently about Michael Cole on the whole - we know that.

However…I think this was his worst night in years, it was as if he was possessed by the ghost of Vince McMahon.

Saying he’d like to see all of the things the fans were doing with the Dominik Mysterio loo roll was the most telling sign that this might have happened. But the going on to say the Bloodline tag match was the biggest in match Cody’s career? I mean, come on - no one’s buying that.

He must have been itching for a failed Undertaker run-in so he could tell the viewers that he’d never seen ‘Taker get manhandled like that before.

It's really not. It's a couple of hours after the event, most people might not have seen it yet, and it's a bit disingenuous to say "Well it's alright for them isn't it?" when plenty of people will take issue with that spot, and Legit may very well do as well. 

Neither company should be doing any sort of unprotected head shot with a heavy metal object, simple as that really.

Still, I personally really enjoyed the show and didn't think about AEW once.

Opener was great. Pitch perfect. They've made the CM Punk return, and the Drew feud, completely 100% justified and worth it.

Main event was good, but the final section was perfect. Everything was timed brilliantly, from the Jimmy return, to the Roman save to The Rock's return. Top notch.

Unprotected headshots should disappear no matter which promotion it is. That said, it looked like this was unintentional - McIntyre clearly tried to raise his arm, but seemingly did so too late. I don’t think it’s a WWE vs AEW thing in this case, it’s just that it doesn’t appear to have been deliberate.

I watched just the HITC so can’t comment on the rest. It was everything you want from the end of a blood feud and not. Those guys have it everything and when Punk was putting on that awful Sharpshooter he looked absolutely spent. Some of those bumps made me cringe in their brutality (similar to Page/Swerve recently). You have to hand it to both of them, especially that last bump Drew took, looked horrible. Well played to both of them. Whilst I’m not a Punk fan it would be idiotic to not give them man his dues when he pulls out a performance like that!

It’s all moot because Drew actually has a gimmicked head. 

I can usually tune out Cole and Graves but the robo-commentary does grate when the match is an excellent hate-filled bloodbath like that one. The insistence on using the term “superstars” sounds so silly when they’re jamming wrenches into each other’s open wounds. Also “the BEADS! The same beads Punk’s necklace was made out of! Drew symbolically pouring them over Punk’s head!” Thanks for that Michael.

That's fair. My intention was to highlight how pointless and sometimes bad faith the argument/discussion is and how it should be put to bed rather than to start it all over again but I appreciate that I didn't word it the right way.

Unfortunately, the spot ended up being breaking your back on the casket at Royal Rumble 1998. I don’t know how you throw your back into the ring steps at that force and not have your vertebrae explode. Star-making performance for both men. Delivered on the big stage when they needed to the most. Nobody will remember the traffic lights. I hope they have big things planned for the immediate future.

All the stars in the world for the referee trying to wipe Drew’s blood with the towel and Drew chucking it away. I’m sorry, Nigel McGuinness. Blood is objectively brilliant.

My only complain is that Joe Tessitore didn’t call the Cell match. Imagine him reacting to all that violence with the authentic innocence and awe we hear every Monday! He’d have lost his fucking mind!

I've never responded so viscerally to something in wrestling as when Punk went to smash the table legs into Drew's face and hadn't seemed to realise there was a little metal dagger still attached to the base.

I thought it was over for Drew.

A wrestling match so good I want to buy a CM Punk or Drew McIntyre t-shirt.

The HIAC match was the best one I can remember in some time. I thought the gimmick was still living off those early ones for years but this should turn it into the bloody feud ended it once was.

The rest of the matches struggled to live up to them. Nia Jax and Bayley was a bit sloppy and the finish to Liv and Rhea was rubbish. Priest and Balor was decent for what it was and the main event was a solid standard tag match once it got going.

Still though, for one of their weaker PLE’s as of late, the returns and stories it set up for the future still made it a good show. I’m all for Bill Goldberg getting his farewell match against Gunther and we are getting closer to the Bloodline War Games, Cody v Rock and Rock v Roman. 

I wasn’t quite expecting Rock to return as early as this so not sure what they have planned. I don’t really see how they suddenly transition to the champion v champion stuff with Cody and Gunther in Saudi after all that happened because you even had the Owens stuff too, but it did the job into making me want to tune in to RAW and Smackdown anyway.
