I think that might be intentional. Remove the risk of the people popping for it finally happening, after being teased, rather than booing which is what they want.

First time dipping back in since WrestleMania. Meant to give SummerSlam a go but never got around to it. This pulled me in and it was pretty much solely for one match. The Hell In A Cell. Might get to watching the rest later if I get chance but Punk vs McIntyre was class. Never would’ve made the connection that it was the same date as the first HIAC match with Undertaker vs Shawn Michaels in 97 if the commentators didn’t point it out but I like little trivia bits like that. Punk wearing the black and silver gear like Shawn did in 97 was a cool little touch as well. I was trying to think what the last Hell In A Cell match I’d have seen would be and, looking at the list of them on Wikipedia, I honestly think it might’ve been Undertaker vs Batista in 2007! None of the ones after it ring a bell. It’s been a while.

The match itself was incredible. Obviously I’ve missed a ton of stuff over the years so there might be other examples but this felt to me like two guys who legitimately hated each other in a way that I can’t remember coming across so authentically since probably the Bret Hart vs Steve Austin feud in 96/97. And that’s just going solely off what they did in this match because I haven’t followed anything since Mania. Just from them staring at each other before they even touched it felt like a big deal. I’m not the biggest Punk fan and I’m far from squeamish but I was genuinely wincing at some of the stuff they did in this one. Especially the stuff with the steps. Fuck me. Wildly entertaining to watch but knowing Punk’s history of injuries in particular, I was half expecting him to just crumble to dust on every bump or weapon shot. Great match though. Even just thinking back to the HIAC matches I have seen, this would probably rank very high as one of the best I’ve seen. Even not having seen about 95% of WWE’s content this year, I’d guess this will be high on everyone’s Match Of The Year lists come UKFF Awards time. 

Punk making a right arse of the Sharpshooter was unforgivable though. Call yourself a Bret Hart fan?

Couple of questions.

1) Was this it for the Punk vs McIntyre feud then? I vaguely remember seeing talk on here of them having other PPV matches and heard Cole on about the “trilogy”. I guess a match like this would have to be the blowoff just because where else can you go after a brutal spectacle like this? Wish I’d kept a closer eye on things since Mania now and at least watched their other matches.

2) Why was this the show opener? Is there a specific reason? Seemed well weird a match like this kicking off the show. Like I said, I haven’t watched any of the other matches yet but it’d be a bastard following that.

1) I would assume so. For now anyway. Maybe they'll cross paths in the Rumble again or something but I really think they hit the top there last night and should move in different directions for now.

2) There was stuff in the main event that made sense to have it as a show closer yes. Although a shame as Punk/Drew also deserved the spot.

Yeah I suppose if they weren’t putting it on last, they couldn’t really have it second to last and risk burning the crowd out just before the main event.

Also - the Jimmy Uso pop...it was incredible but am I on my own and a cynic for thinking the only reason the pop was so loud was because the crowed thought it was Jey?

Nah, I dont think its that, I think there's a lot of goodwill towards the idea of Roman getting the band back together. I think people just really want Bloodline OG v Bloodline Wolfpac.

Yeah I hope so! I lean towards thinking you're right, and that's what I want. The fans are so into WWE and everything it serves up lately so I'm loving they're up for it if that's the case. Just couldn't help but think it as noticed a couple of fans "yeeting" with their arms in the front couple rows.

Definitely cynical. They knew it was Jimmy once the hood was down. And they popped massively for the hug too.

Yeah definitely, especially as it's was the same "disguise" he used at Summerslam 2023 when he fucked over Jey. Definitely a call back for those deeply entrenched in the story.

But I’m trying to work out why this has been praised as part of the end of a blood feud, but people were calling for WBD to cancel their renewal with AEW a month ago due to Swerve and Hangers. Why do we have different standards? Their match made me uncomfortable, this match also did. But why are they treated so differently?

And I’m talking in general, on here I think the views of both matches seem about the same.

Wonder if he even knew it was coming, or just forgot to put his hands up. It added a lot to the match but fucking hell I wish he didn’t just take a tool box to the head. Nasty.

Tbf Trips vs Nash wasn't long, it was just real bad. Not a patch on their ladder match nearly a decade later, which is a surreal sentence to write.
