Oh, I don’t expect to sway anyone. I’m explaining my view as opposed to trying to persuade, and ultimately it’s impossible to prove and some of it is subjective - you don’t have to like a lot of the things he’s done, but the point I’m making is enough people do for it to be fair to say he’s not a one-trick (or one promo, as it is) pony. There are some people who are going to hate Miz no matter not - just as there would have been people who would have scoffed at the idea Ricochet, Toni Storm and Jeff Jarrett could be what they are. You may be right - for every Ricochet there’s an Andrade, and for every Toni Storm there’s a Saraya. But I don’t think it’s particularly wild to think he has the skillset required to carve out a role in AEW. Quote
Infinity Land Posted June 5, 2025 Posted June 5, 2025 The Miz leaves as a full-time WWE talent he's set with the MTV The Challenge, WWE talking head spots on pre-shows, hosting random shows and other media appearances. He'd no doubt start a podcast. He's the wrong kind of signing for AEW. The price tag required to tempt him is never going to be worth it. Quote

Ricochet had a body of work outside WWE, worked much more like AEW's style and had famous matches with AEW talent. Toni Storm was 27 years old when she debuted and was known as a really good wrestler. Jeff Jarrett is barely on TV, is part of a comedy goof troupe, but had a very high calibre body of work behind him that Miz just didn't have. All 3 of them had shown in a number of ways that they could work well outside WWE style. No one expected Ricochet could be the level of heel he's become, and no one realised how Timeless Toni could become but at her age potential was always on her side. Miz is a 44 year old, not fine but not brilliant promo, below average wrestler who's been consistently on TV for 20 years being basically the same gimmick he debuted on The Real World. He's done nothing notable for almost a decade, and most of that was actually pretty forgettable. AEW's roster is already massive, he doesn't add a single thing to that company. Quote

Ignoring all the arguments about whether he's any good or not (he's not), I don't think he would ever go anywhere else. I think he's smart enough to know that he can do well in WWE where he fits a certain role and just has to hit his marks but he'd be exposed pretty quickly anywhere else. Your point was though, that the things I’ve enjoyed about Miz took place a while ago. Jarrett’s highlights compared to his time in AEW were even more distant, Ricochet’s best work had been pretty distant too - but even that revealed nothing about what he became. But like I say, it’s subjective and potentially unprovable until it happens. And even if it could happen, I don’t think that it would. I’d be very surprised if Tony Khan signed him. Clearly in my case I’d be pleasantly surprised, but it’s perfectly fine for you to feel otherwise. Quote
Chico Torres Posted June 5, 2025 Posted June 5, 2025 20 years of….nothing. It’s fair to say that during his ~6 year tenure in the WWF, Virgil had a much more memorable career than The Miz had in 20. The skits with Million Dollar Man and his run as bodyguard, the face turn and alignment with Piper and the matches at Wrestlemania and especially Sunmerslam and winning the Million Dollar belt, the face v face match with Bret to show that Bret really was a fighting champion and getting squished by Yoko. Meanwhile The Miz has just…existed. @LaGoosh mentioned it earlier, had no idea how to wrestle like a heel at all. Quote

I will say The Miz' version of The Stroke is better, at least. 38 minutes ago, Chico Torres said: It’s fair to say that during his ~6 year tenure in the WWF, Virgil had a much more memorable career than The Miz had in 20. Bret Hart never hurt an opponent but still had numerous injuries over the years and that's because unfortunately it's pretty much impossible to have consistently good and exciting matches without it leading to wear and tear and injuries. However if you wrestle like a complete non-entity and do nothing notable, exciting or creative whatsoever then you've probably got a better chance of getting away injury free. And yeah Miz has had an excellent career for himself. Made a ton of money doing the exact same easy schtick and wrestling a low impact style. Good for him. But as a fan who wants to watch good wrestlers have good matches and do good promos why would I give a shit about that? Quote

Miz isn't for you, or for me for that matter but he must have been for someone because even Vince wouldn't keep someone who wasn't making money. He also headlined exactly as many Wrestlemania's as CM Punk. He gets on no one's Mt. Rushmore but he has filled a role better than can ever have been expected. Quote
Paid Members Supremo Posted June 5, 2025 Paid Members Posted June 5, 2025 In the business of pro-wrestling, The Miz is a huge success story. Met his wife, lived his dream and made millions wrestling a safe style. Never got badly injured and is probably in a far better physical condition than most guys winding down their careers. None of that really matters to me as a fan though. The man is shit. Awe-shit. Never did anything particularly memorable. Never had a particularly good match. A generic CAW that went through an entire career not once increasing a single stat. The thing no-one ever mentions about the one good thing he did - the Talking Smack promo with Bryan Danielson - is that you can’t even use that as evidence of untapped potential because Danielson returned. They capitalised on it. They had the feud and it was so fucking rubbish that it played a huge part in them needing to turn Bryan Danielson heel in order to save his run. The best thing of Miz’s career and it was arguably the worst thing of Bryan’s. Look at the run Danielson had following that Miz feud. In the same time, the only thing I could tell you that Miz did was be a bit funny for a few weeks in the, “I accidentally joined a cult,” storyline with Karrion Kross. That’s it! Decades of just being there. It’s the ultimate irony. The go-to guy for retrospective documentaries and he had the least memorable career of all time. Quote

Paid Members Jesse Posted June 5, 2025 Paid Members Posted June 5, 2025 The Miz is an alternate reality look at a Chris Jericho wo doesn't jump between promotions and have time off to reinvent himself. Just endlessly there doing the same thing forever and having nobody's best match while he's at it. Quote

Sure, but a large part of my point is that you're taking individual characteristics of people and holding them up the Miz and saying "hey, look!" and I'm saying you don't get decent comparisons that way. Both Double J and Double o'chet hadn't shown clear declines on TV every week. Miz has. Quote
