CavemanLynn Posted December 7, 2022 Posted December 7, 2022 It's all compounded by the added logistics of going on the road. It's one of the reasons the sense of fun has gone. Those pandemic days next to the Jaguar stadium had a real vibe of a crew rallying together and doing what they could to put on a great show and keep spirits up with limited resources, and it not only led to some iconic gimmick matches like the parking lot brawl, Arcade Anarchy and Stadium Stampede, but also a real sense of camaraderie and welcoming. Touring seems to have massively narrowed their focus and creativity, and everyone seems kind of tired trying to do what they can in the short time they have. There's also a sense of splitting in the roster, not just in terms of the angles, but in terms of who's pushed and who's not. Of course it's subjective, but The Acclaimed vs FTR being thrown out there feels like trying to placate vocal fans while TK can find more ways to give Jay Lethal 10 minutes every show. Same as Willow Nightingale got the #IsAllElite treatment and a title shot as soon as she got over, instead of getting the investment of a decent storyline and contender's journey. With the wealth of on and off screen talent they have, they really shouldn't be struggling for consistent quality TV by relying on one guy's overworked brain. Quote
Guest Posted December 7, 2022 Posted December 7, 2022 Is there value in the tape library as anyone who I know who admitted to liking ROH has what they wanna watch downloaded already.small volumes of people are gonna wanna watch badly lit and recorded old shows in front of tiny crowds. Yeah you get clips of your aew talent on best of compilations, but are they even a thing anymore as aew hasn’t touched it and the wwe dvd business is dead Quote
Guest Posted December 7, 2022 Posted December 7, 2022 Seeing on the press calls today that Tony’s mum has had back to back strokes. No wonder tv has went to shit. He needs to find a strong number 2 to take the reigns when things like that come up as can’t spin every plate every day Quote
Paid Members Supremo Posted December 8, 2022 Paid Members Posted December 8, 2022 (edited) If nothing else, Tony Khan's booking is always unpredictable. The moment Ricky Starks won the Battle Royale the logic instantly fell into place and I fully expected that Ricky was going to lose the Title match next week, but then immediately challenge for the Diamond Ring straight after, winning that to save face. It's a bit Lex Luger, but at least I get the intent. This stupid, convoluted e-fed nonsense almost made sense...and then they just announced that both the World Title and the Diamond Ring were on the line at the same time, Winner Takes All. Oh well. I can't complain too much though. I'll accept pretty much anything if it means we get to see Ricky Starks lose his fucking mind, cutting the craziest, most impassioned promo, seemingly going ten minutes without taking a breath. Phenomenal. First time in ages we've been reminded how great Starks is. Exactly what next week's main event needed. It's really cool that such a high profile match features two homegrown talents. A far cry from where this company was a year ago, flooded with WWE/NXT rejects. "Head back to Papa H if you want! THE LADS will take it from here." Best Samoa Joe match in years. Just feed him small super workers for the foreseeable future. It's enough to almost convince you he can still go. It was incredibly telling how many empty seats were suddenly visible during that Blackpool Combat Club vs. Jericho Appreciation Society tag match. A feud that has completely jumped the shark and landed straight into piss break territory. And to think they've got a PPV built entirely around this feud on Saturday! Woof. I almost felt bad for Moxley having to sell the show on the promise that this will be the end of this never-ending bollocks. You're five months too late, mate. Nobody cares anymore. Just call it a day. Do a Survivor Series Elimination tag where the losing team has to disband and then end it on a double count-out, so both factions fuck off forever. Hager can keep his hat. William Regal appearing in a pre-tape from two weeks ago was utterly bizarre. If they must, they should go the whole hog and have him appearing as the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future over the next few weeks, showing us how happy he and Excalibur could have been as lovers if Hunter hadn't come calling. Teasing a mystery partner for Saraya is brave. Everyone will be expecting Sasha or Naomi. Considering what an awful babyface Saraya is, on a run seemingly sabotaged to fail, I fully expect it to be someone deeply disappointing. Mox vs. Takeshita? Lovely. And is that a Miro return against Orange Cassidy I can smell?! Oh, Rampage. Just when I think I'm out, they pull me back in! Great main event. That's the AEW I love. Fantastic action, with the balls to do a definitive finish. FTR lost nothing and I'd love to see a rematch at Revolution, provided FTR are still employed by March. FTR vs. Briscoes 3 is certainly more exciting than FTR vs. The Gunn Club, but I dunno. I'm genuinely starting to resent Dem Boys because their weird situation seems to be the only reason ROH exists anymore. If they were allowed on TNT/TBS I think we could finally be rid of all this rubbish. Come on, Warner Bros execs! Forgive and forget so we can finally see the end of ROH! Put it and us out of our misery! Let this truly be the Final Battle! Edited December 8, 2022 by Supremo Quote
Paid Members Nick James Posted December 8, 2022 Paid Members Posted December 8, 2022 The worst thing about teasing Saraya's partner a month out, is that we will now get a month of online detectives convincing themselves it's 100% going to be Sasha Banks, then being pissed off if it isn't and then blaming AEW. We have seen how much people are working themselves into the scenario that Naomi and Sasha are returning for each episode or Raw and PPVs since they left, then getting mad when they don't. It'll be Lita, that's my pick (Unless she's signed to WWE). Quote

RedRooster Posted December 8, 2022 Posted December 8, 2022 The MJF/Starks segment was great, and made me feel a little sad that they don't have more time to build up to this. I'm really surprised that more people aren't bringing up how stupid the William Regal video was. That was honestly one of the most stupid things I've ever seen in wrestling. It made absolutely no sense and was completely unnecessary. It was outrageously bad. I suspect Jon Moxley felt similarly, given that he didn't even acknowledge it in his promo when Schiavone asked him for his reaction. Quote

Overall a great episode of Dynamite and that main event was tasty. Im up for FTR/Acclaimed 2 for New Years Smash. Quote

A month to go and an LA debut. Everyone involved certainly knows what they're doing. Sasha Banks has been doing all her wrestling related teases and Naomi got in on the act by going to an NBA game with Jade Cargill. Whether or not they're playing with fire that will burn fans due to the expectations time will tell. Quote
Paid Members Fatty Facesitter Posted December 8, 2022 Paid Members Posted December 8, 2022 I'm just here to compliment the Ricky Starks spear and how it literally speared MJF out of his shoes. Lovely. Quote

Reveal hidden contents It's that fucking twat Trent Severn. Spoiler They are good friends in real life, when OC did a uk tour a couple of years they took him to a show, mainly to take the p!ss as 'that lot' tended to do. I hope this is a one off based on their friendship, I don't see how he would bring any value to the promotion As for the mystery partner, how far is Statlander from returning? Quote
Paid Members quote the raven Posted December 8, 2022 Paid Members Posted December 8, 2022 Darby Allen is a more athletic Cactus Jack back when he was taking stupid bumps every week. Hes a human car crash who seems one bump away from a broken back and or neck Quote

Who could have possibly thought that would help the situation? Already a muddled mess, this somehow made it worse. With the Punk thing, it came out of nowhere and they had to scramble to pivot. Here, they seemingly had at least a few weeks to close the chapter and they chose the weirdest, most nonsensical route possible. Would have been easier just telling the truth. “I’m old, I’m fucking tired, and I want to get paid to coach my children.” Quote
Loki Posted December 8, 2022 Posted December 8, 2022 Yeah, Starks brought the fire. He's not the complete package yet on the mic but he just needs practice in front of a big crowd. I feel that MJF worked better when he had an entourage - the Pinnacle made him look important. Now it's just him, for example it was quite noticeable how small he was next to Starks. Samoa Joe v Allin was everything I hoped for, and more. As @Supremosaid, that's the template for a bigger Joe run. Not sure exactly how you take a back bump onto a skateboard truck safely though - Allin is destined for a wheelchair. Kip Sabian twirling his moustache makes me sad - no more toys Tony! Similar with the teases for Paige's partner. No doubt Sasha Banks would be a great signing but honestly, they've got enough talent now for two shows a week. Quote
