Just to be clear, everyone is a dick here except Kylie Rae. That journo who did it to win a twitter spat for clout as well, scummy business that has our hearts. Tossers.

It's still really poor judgement

I didn't say it wasn't. However it's important when discussing serious stuff like this to get the basic facts correct otherwise the thread will devolve into people talking complete bollocks.

Tony Khan is a pro-wrestling promoter. It’s literally his job to over-hype and over-sell his product. The only reason it feels Trumpian is because Donald Trump decided to take a pro-wrestling promoter approach to being the actual President of the United States of America.

Tony Khan has legitimate flaws as both a person and a promoter. The last twenty four hours has presented another example. However, I feel like we’re losing sight of the real problems if this discussion devolves into criticising him for not coming out and saying, “TV’s been a bit shit recently, hasn’t it? Devil angle jumped the shark, TBH.”

Exactly. WWE do press conferences and they promote things the same way. In fact, one of the more hilarious things is when they announce the attendance at Wrestlemania and then on the next shareholder call have to correct the record to the actual number, not  entertainment one.

The Trump thing is interesting, I never thought of it that way, but considering his history with WWF/E starting with Wrestlemania 4, his Wrestlemania match, friendship (and employment) of the McMahons it’s no wonder he’s taken a proven successful model of self promotion and made it work.

That’s a bit of an oversimplification of what I’ve said. As I mentioned, it’s not just about over-hyping things; his Twitter behaviour is just as relevant. I’m obviously not expecting him to come out and say that television is shit - and I think he very much believes what he’s saying. Wade Keller, on his podcast, citing main event AEW talent as his source (obviously not naming them), said wrestlers have been advising one another on the best way to speak to Tony without bruising his ego; and suggested he does believe much of what he says - with the Observer awards and choosing to only pay attention to positive online feedback being the fuel to a not-so-helpful fire.

I mean, heck, the guy blamed a co-ordinated WWE bot-attack for some of his negative feedback. He doesn’t seem to take criticism well, or rationally. If you don’t agree that there are Trumpian aspects to his behaviour then fair enough - but I don’t think it’s a particular wild statement.

I also don’t think we’re ‘losing sight of the real problem’ by assessing his character in this way - this is the ‘Tony Khan is a twat’ thread after all (not the Jericho or Me Too threads) - and Tony Khan‘s personality flaws are, to a significant degree, an issue.

Google translate brother. No Latin at the comprehensive I attended.

At least you didn’t use Google Translate to see what “Sharp Knife” is in Latvian.

Tony is the son of a billionaire. He has likely never been told 'No' in his entire life.
I work with a guy whose parents are millionaires and he is a massive throbber with no self awareness so I can only imagine how unbearable the son of a billionaire is.

Add in that all the carny wrestling folk know they can butter him up and enjoy the easiest, most lucrative payday from the biggest money mark they’ll ever meet. And he won’t care if you are a sex pest.
