Surely that’s just a sting operation to flush out paedophiles.

Said on a forum about wrestling. Though historically they have outed themselves out here I guess

Oh dear!

https://www.theguardian.com/film/2023/nov/13/the-marvels-records-worst-ever-north-american-opening-weekend-performance-for-mcu-marvel-cinematic-universe

Quote

Data site the Numbers reports that The Marvels, which stars Brie Larson as Captain Marvel alongside Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau and Iman Vellani as Ms Marvel, took an estimated $47m (£38.4m) over its first three days in US and Canadian cinemas, meaning that it has displaced The Incredible Hulk as the MCU’s worst recorded opening; the latter managed $55.4m on its release in June 2008. The Marvels’ financial difficulties are compounded by its production budget, which is reported to have been $274.8m, the fourth-highest of any MCU film.

How many flops in a row is that now? Five?

In all seriousness, it is tied to the continuing box office malaise and Barbenheimer doesn't seem to have shaken it out of that. But these were doing great immediately after lockdowns and now not so much. A great shame, obviously. They just never know when the dead horse has been flogged enough.

Teyonah Parris is awesome in They Cloned Tyrone though, and it's one of the best films of the year.

They've fucked themselves by simultaneously doing a bunch of Marvel TV shows every year so the movies no longer feel like an event, along with rushing films out onto Disney+ a few months after the cinema release. Somebody who is on the fence about seeing the new Marvel film who has a Disney+ accountis much more likely to wait a couple of months and watch it in the comfort of their own home.

They probably should've had a bit of a break after Endgame and do a soft relaunch a few years down the line with X-Men/Fantastic Four etc, but instead they seem happy enough to keep pumping out 'content' to ever diminishing returns.

Why do these films cost so much when they usually look like shit anyway? 280m and it looks like mid-range TV.

By way of a comparison, The Creator cost $80 million to make and looks amazing.
