The Reverend Posted July 5, 2021 Posted July 5, 2021 There's a sad news report today that 'The Funker' is being moved to assisted living due to his dementia becoming increasingly worse. Incredibly sad news as he always seemed pretty indestructible. Quote
5pints Posted July 5, 2021 Posted July 5, 2021 I guess that means he's finally retired for real this time. Quote
Paid Members 2Xtreme_lives Posted July 5, 2021 Paid Members Posted July 5, 2021 I'm genuinely gutted to hear this news. I'd only over the last couple of months discovered Terry Funks NWA and Memphis stuff and felt compelled this past weekend to send my first ever piece of fan mail to him sharing my enjoyment of being in a WWF/E most of my fandom and was totally unaware of his illness ? I hope that if he gets it he can still enjoy the pleasure he's still giving to new fans Quote
Paid Members IANdrewDiceClay Posted July 5, 2021 Paid Members Posted July 5, 2021 Where's the source for this? Cant find anyone reporting it. Quote
Paid Members BomberPat Posted July 5, 2021 Paid Members Posted July 5, 2021 I haven't seen this reported anywhere, nor have I heard anything of Terry Funk having dementia. The only mention I can see of it on Twitter is one Tweet citing Don Muraco's podcast. What's the source? Quote
Vegeta Posted July 6, 2021 Posted July 6, 2021 I really hope that this isn't true, my thoughts are with his family if it is Quote
SaitoRyo Posted July 6, 2021 Posted July 6, 2021 Didn't know whether to put this in wrestling photos or Twitter threads, but since this one is about Funk. What a fucking amazing shot this is (from Finlay on Twitter, wishing the Funker a happy birthday the other day). Quote
Paid Members Nick James Posted July 6, 2021 Paid Members Posted July 6, 2021 Every article I have seen about this have been on shitty sites and all cite Don Muraco's podcast as the source. Pinch of salt required I would imagine until confirmed by more reputable sources. Quote
CTXRussomark Posted July 6, 2021 Posted July 6, 2021 Funk was doing virtual signings as recently as a couple of months ago and, whilst definitely looking and sounding his age, didn't seem to be showing any notable signs of illness. Hopefully a false report. Quote
Paid Members BomberPat Posted July 6, 2021 Paid Members Posted July 6, 2021 He did a Ringo Starr recently and warned people with peace and love not to send him anything to be signed, but that was mostly due to him being physically in bad shape with his hips and the hernia that basically retired him. His wife passed away a couple of years ago, too. He's a wrestler that's pushing 80, so it's no surprise he's in a bad way, but I'd want to hear from somewhere more reputable than a second hand account of something Don Muraco apparently said was said to him by someone else. Sadly true and confirmed by PWInsider. Fucking sucks. God bless the Funker. Quote
Wideload90 Posted July 6, 2021 Posted July 6, 2021 Awful news. Surprised he's been in decent health for a while considering his wrestling style. Hope he doesn't suffer with this awful disease. Quote
Snitsky's back acne Posted July 6, 2021 Posted July 6, 2021 Very sad news. Absolute legend. Hope he is comfortable and getting the care he needs. Quote
