Was about the only time they managed to make Roman look a star before they turned him heel in front of no-one. Now more than ever, I’d appreciate a show like this. You could get a solid half an hour out of skits following Gunther living his day-to-day life, doing the big shop, walking the dog, washing the car, all whilst cackling about ending everyone’s careers. That was a fascinating episode of TV that, they had to really pull something out their arse that night. I recall JBL doing the weather report on the roof of Titan Tow which I'm sure he was thrilled about. Quote
FUM Posted February 23 Posted February 23 The shows on the fly are always better. Even that Mania that was delayed because of the rain had some cracking promo work before they properly started the show. Quote
d-d-d-dAz Posted February 24 Posted February 24 They dont half get blindsided a lot for a group called The Vision. Probably best just to pack it all in and move on before Seth returns. Even Heyman has to be looking around and thinking 'this isn't worth it'. Quote
DavidB6937 Posted February 24 Posted February 24 As a whole, a very middling and treading water episode. Whatever travel issues they had or whatever didn't suddenly make them have the best and most interesting Raw ever. Just a lot of talking really. They'd have to be absolutely mad to go with anything other than Oba for Lesnar this year (apart from Gunther) so that obviously means they won't. Crowd were fairly rubbish but to be honest they didn't have much to get into so not blaming them. But I'll give them some credit - the AJ stuff was nice and as close as you'll get to a reasonable WWE retirement tribute these days, so I'll take it. It felt pretty genuine, had a few nice video packages, and they got the Gunther stuff out the way early. And the HOF stuff seems to mean a lot to these guys so that must have been nice for him. Punk/Reigns and Liv/Stephanie are two decent Mania matches. I guess we'll see what else comes up but there's a lot to fill still. Quote
Paid Members Supremo Posted February 24 Paid Members Posted February 24 (edited) Building the Vision stable around a self-congratulatory worked injury, only for the original three members to all go down with legitimate injuries is wild. Paul Heyman going from the Wrestlemania Main Event being built around who wins his affections, to managing a tag team of Logan Paul and Austin Theory. Man alive. Things haven’t gone this south for Heyman since Tommy Dreamer’s Wrestlemania 17 fantasies. Yet another reason why Gunther might be low key the most perfect Sports Entertainer alive; when he gets attacked and left throwing a tantrum he has the funniest hair that sticks up like an angry cartoon. For entertainment value, it’s up there with his massive Pac-Man mouth when he does his huge, villainous laugh. Crazy that they teased Gunther and Cody backstage. Just further highlighted how much hotter that would be as the Wrestlemania Night One Main Event. Poor Drew can’t catch a break! Brock Lesnar announcing a Wrestlemania Open Challenge was telling. There is nothing on that Mania Card whiteboard beyond Roman/Punk and Liv/Stephanie. A real sense of leaving your homework until the last minute. The AJ stuff was mostly lovely and felt earnest. “Nice but dim,” is probably a good way to describe AJ. Getting Gallows and Anderson in for at least one more payday proves what a good mate he is. Watch them somehow stick around for another six month catering stretch, each on six figures. Maybe this is truly the end for AJ. Him, Taker and Stephanie can all have a lovely time at the Hall of Fame as the MAGA Powers and he can call it a career. I’d still bet he’s in an AEW ring by the end of the year though. With Gallows and Anderson not far behind. Edited February 24 by Supremo Quote
d-d-d-dAz Posted February 24 Posted February 24 (edited) Before I annoy anyone, I should say.. I love AJ Styles. I was thrilled when he joined WWE, and continued to enjoy him long after WWE lost interest in him as a proper main eventer, and long after it became clear he struggled to have a good Wrestlemania match. But... did this feel a bit much to anyone else? It had a weird element to me of.. why are they pretending this is the same as Ric Flair or Undertaker or whoever retiring, when for long chunks of his run he was just an opening tag guy. Abyss popping out of cupboards like a cut price Kane, the mid Brothers wanging about like The Dudleys, Omos getting Mark Henry's jacket stretched out. It sort of felt like one of those Britwres shows where everyone cosplays as WWE wrestlers, only they broadcast it on Raw. Goodbye AJ, I guess. I wish they booked you as strongly whilst you were around. Edited February 24 by d-d-d-dAz Quote
Snitsky's back acne Posted February 24 Posted February 24 I guess AJ has signed a new contract then. I'd imagine they wouldn't be putting him the Hall of Fame if they thought there was a chance of him buggering off to AEW like was being speculated. Quote

Even at their most cloying, the most obvious sign that they always considered AJ a level below the top tier is that Triple H didn’t somehow crowbar himself into the segment. The bizarrely understated Triple H involvement in all this reeked of him not lowering himself to B Plus Player Territory. Or he’s been humbled and developed a bit of self-awareness after being booed out of the building during Cena’s retirement, but almost certainly the former. Quote
TheScarlettChad Posted February 24 Posted February 24 There's no way AJ is going to AEW now. They'll have him locked down. That and I just don't think he wants to go there. Quote
