There’s too much wrestling in wrestling on the weekly shows and there’s no company offering an alternative to that. I don’t even mean that more time should be filled with promos or storylines but, for me anyway, matches on a weekly TV show should be short and sharp with the PLE delivering the longer fight. In doing that, it allows you to feature and build more wrestlers as well as give them personalities that aren’t just “wrestler”. Being able to perform in a quick fast paced match and wanting to see more of someone is what gets a lot of people over. Seeing the same guys go 20-25 mins at full pelt weekly is dull as there’s nothing more to see. I searched a random RAW from 2000 on the back of this show. 8 matches in a 2 hour show. Combined with mic work and angles, that’s chances for loads of people to get themselves across and they did. RAW now averages 4-5 matches on a 2.5 hour show because random matches are given a long time most weeks. I’m finding it difficult to convey my point to be honest but hopefully somebody gets it. I understand that. I really like the AEW product at the moment and I do think they do a really good job of making matches consequential but even then, I have to skip through some every week. They're not all really long, they do a fairly nice job of fitting the length to the status of the people working but there'll still be a 7 minute match on any given week that I still only care about seeing the finish to. When I was last watching WWE, I would barely ever watch the matches. Because it's the same, except the bit between the entrance and the finish matters way less than it does in AEW. Given the nature of their product and the importance of moments over anything else, I'm surprised they book anything that needs any attention span at all. Having TV time to fill is surely the only reason. Quote

digforvictory Posted August 12, 2025 Posted August 12, 2025 It's apparently 4 Raw main events in a row to end in a shitty DQ finish and 6 of the last 7 Raws and Smackdowns combined. That's fucking terrible. Quote
d-d-d-dAz Posted August 12, 2025 Posted August 12, 2025 The Bloodline walked, so that The Vision could run. Or, more accurately... The Bloodline finished every Smackdown for 706 years standing victorious over their enemies, so that The Vision could finish every Raw for 706 years standing victorious over their enemies. My engagement today has been opening the website to see what happened, and the sense of deja vu was amazing. Every week since I can remember some combination of Seth, Bron or the other Bron have been stood with their arms raised whilst CM Punk has been on his back. Make it stop. Quote

I was thinking about it last night when I wanted to watch some TV wrestling but didn't fancy any WWE or AEW. I miss the kind of wrestling where stuff happens. Slow burn storylines are great and all, but I like a mix with some instant gratification. I want to watch a show and be surprised when something happens. I don't want endless matches for the sake of them. Long, quality wrestling matches are what PLEs/PPVs are for. I miss the variety of wrestling. I want to watch big men have slow, high impact squash matches. I want brawlers to have hard-hitting brawls, without it having to be a contrived Street Fight where they spend ages setting up tables and pulling out chairs. Essentially, what I want is something like the best bits of Vince Russo's TNA crossed with Lucha Underground crossed with Wrestling Society X. Fast, fun, with long term payoffs and a true alternative. Quote

Chili Posted August 12, 2025 Posted August 12, 2025 If modern wrestling is missing anything these days it's women having miscarriages but turn out they were never preggers anyway because women are duplicitous. Quote

I don’t know about that. Most of the talent seems lucky to get a match one week out of three or four. They tried to act like Jey Uso was a burned out champion by MITB and he’d only wrestled 6 matches since Mania. Having said that, the matches on TV are longer than they used to be. They have to be ; with only 5-6 matches on an average PLE, they spread the matches of consequence out to do more of them on the weekly telly. Quote

Obviously I didn't meant the misogyny or any of the terrible storylines, just ignore I invoked his name, I didn't intend for it spark another boring Russo debate. I meant more the variety of gimmicks, storylines, wrestling styles. I stand by the rest - I want variety. I don't mean 1999 "three ring circus" stuff. I wasn't even a wrestling fan in 1999. Quote

He is, and that makes it even more frustrating to see WWE - particularly on the men’s side - creep back into their old habit of not elevating exciting young talent. Breakker has been positioned as a lackey, and they’re reducing his value somewhat as a result. I’d love to see him in a singles feud with someone significant - perhaps Punk, Cena, Rhodes or Reigns. Even Dominik Mysterio, despite being one of their most over and entertaining characters, feels rather underutilised. A singles feud with any of the above could be fun, but for whatever reason he’s not been given the opportunity to be more than a mid card character. There are fresh faces in top roles since Triple H took over - Gunther, Jey Uso and LA Knight being the obvious ones. But there’s still a certain stagnancy about the top of their card and I’d like to see them freshen things up more significantly and give opportunities to some younger faces. Quote

It'll happen sooner or later, I'm sure. I don't exactly have a lot of faith in 'HHH' as a booker, but Breakker is only 27, so he has a good thirteen years or so before he's WWE main eventer age anyway. He's got all the tools and being in this stable and having this spotlight on him is allowing him to show more of his personality, which is good. The big thing with Breakker (and this goes for most of the roster tbh) is that I wish they ran a fuller schedule of house shows. If Bron was getting his reps in in front of crowds every week, he'd be getting where he needs to be a lot sooner than he is. Quote
