God bless Heather Graham, her movie roles seem to be just the same now as they were 25 years ago. I also wish she was in more things. Quote
Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted October 30, 2023 Paid Members Posted October 30, 2023 Sadly, Heather Graham was a victim of the Weinstein blacklist and it seems a lot of actresses have found it hard to get back off it. Quote

A couple of YouTubers just made one of the most exciting horror films of the last decade. They've got a prequel and sequel on the way and I can't wait. Amazing sound design on this, too. Watched this last night and it’s a cracker. Finds a way to be fresh and authentic whilst treading familiar ground. It’s not big on scares but it stays with you and will have you running up the stairs after it. Best of all was that there was no attempt for it to be ‘elevated horror.’ It’s also exactly how the yoof of today would react to such a thing. Quote
Merzbow Posted October 31, 2023 Posted October 31, 2023 I watched Killers of the Flower Moon a couple of days back and it's a great film with some outstanding acting, Lily outacting Leo at every turn was fun, it's almost definitely a vehicle for Marty to get an important bit of American history in to the mainstream and props to him for doing so. Even my dumb arse with zero attention span was kept engrossed throughout the entire near 4 hours. Quote

This is such a good point and it's almost certainly to do with the filmmakers' background and previous success on social media. They capture the whole online wildfire and trending commotion better than I've seen because they've been there and know what it's like. Too often when films try and cover that sort of thing they're real 'How d'you do fellow kids' efforts. Such a good film. Quote
Mr_Danger Posted October 31, 2023 Posted October 31, 2023 They’re developing a Street Fighter film as well as their Talk to Me sequels too. Probably won’t be propping up any YouTube boxing cards anytime soon. Quote
Rule One Posted October 31, 2023 Posted October 31, 2023 I've watched a whole slew of Horror style stuff as it's Spooktober, I'm hoping to write out a full list when I can. These are just from the past day or so. Talk To Me - As discussed, one the better Horror type films to be released in some time. The only exception is that nobody is likeable. It seems to be a staple of the times in these sorts of films. SCREAM 6 - Oh boy was this bad. A worn out cliche ridden mess again punctuated by no-one new being likeable. I'm hoping they leave the series alone for a long time now. Texas Chainsaw Massacre (Netflix) - Again, nobody is in the slightest bit likeable. Really reaching with the tie in to the original and nothing remotely interesting or original in it. Evil Dead Rise - Rise of what? Tepid connections to film series that has gotten worse with everything connected to it after the originals. Poor attempt all round topped off by some truly laughable opening special effects. @SuperBacon If you were being tortured and had a choice between Old Dads and Old to watch on repeat, which is the least punishment and how long do you reckon you'll last? Paid Members LaGoosh Posted October 31, 2023 Paid Members Posted October 31, 2023 I really liked Talk To Me. I felt that (like 99% of horror films to be fair) it fell apart a bit in the last 30 minutes or so however the concept of it is so good that I'm actually excited to see a sequel. Feels like they've only just tapped the potential of the concept. Quote

The building they live in I presume. As in high rise. The bar isn’t high for an attempt at prolonging the Evil Dead franchise and whilst I found this film serviceable it seemed like another one of those films with a franchise plastered on to it. You’d get a much better fix of Evil Dead from the tv series which was a greatest hits with a few new bits and pieces added. Quote
Paid Members tiger_rick Posted November 1, 2023 Paid Members Posted November 1, 2023 There aren't many films I've seen twice in the cinema but you can add Hocus Pocus to that short list, albeit 30 years apart. That's fucking frightening that a bloke with a mental age of 12 is old enough for that but it is what is. I hadn't seen it from that original cinema trip until last year when my daughter discovered it and loved it. Now seen it several times again and I'm not sure if it's nostalgia, but I quite like it. This was the first time I really clocked the fantastic line from the bus driver when Bette Midler says "We desire Children" and he replies "Well, it may take me a couple of tries but I don't think that'll be a problem". We also watched Coraline for the first time which is a really excellent film. Scared the shit out of me with the button eyes but a great premise brilliantly delivered. Amazing stop-motion animation. Also watched The Addams Family, the new version. This isn't particularly clever or original, obviously, but I really enjoyed it. Lots of really funny stuff. Looking forward to seeing the second one, which no doubt will be shit. Quote
Paid Members air_raid Posted November 1, 2023 Paid Members Posted November 1, 2023 (edited) The mrs was looking for a cheesy Halloween film the other night on the streaming platforms and landed on Moms Got A Date With A Vampire (2000). God, it was shit, but it was a welcome throwback to simpler times when you could churn out a film off the back of one person people might recognize - in this case, Aunt Hilda off Sabrina. Very of its time in terms of filming style, (bad) humour and American children being scripted to behave and speak in ways that only American children in films did at the time - I doubt they did in real life. Shit, but so shit I enjoyed it. A breath of fresh air compared to modern (American) scripting styles where everyone speaks at 100mph in massive long run-on sentences that you can't keep track of, and EVERY fucking character is scripted to be irreverent and sarcastic. But yeah, I found some positives, but still, its terrible and you needn't watch it. Unless you've got a thing for Aunt Hilda. Edited November 1, 2023 by air_raid Quote
Vegeta Posted November 1, 2023 Posted November 1, 2023 Due to it being Halloween last night I decided to take a look at saw X. No doubt most of you have probably seen it by now, but I will mention everything spoiler free. I just felt the pacing was too slow, they tried to make more of a story which I found myself switching off for. Loved all of the original 3 saws but felt this lacked the pace, almost like a dog meowing. Gonna check out the hauting in Venice tonight, don't know if anyone has seen or know if its worth a watch or not? Quote

Can only echo what's already been said on here about Talk To Me I thought it was absolutely brilliant and rounded off my October horror watching. Not a big horror fan (jesus Bacon, why don't you tell them again, they've never heard that one!) so it has to be something to really hold my interest, and this did, and was suitably vivid when it needed to be, which I got a squirmy kick out of. Sophia Wilde was fantastic, and can see her being in a LOT more. Quote
